Court case involving emoji ruled acceptance of contract
A court case in Swift Current that concluded last month could set the precedent around emojis being used for legally binding contracts.
The contract between South West Terminal (plaintiff) and Achter Land & Cattle Ltd. (defendant) was completed via text message on the afternoon of March 26, 2021, for the delivery of 87 metric tonnes of flax. The delivery timeframe was set for November 1, 2021, and November 30, 2021, but the product never came.
Clean fuel policy won't impact gas locally yet
Gas prices in Estevan could be on the rise later this week but that's not because of the new federal clean fuel regulations that came into effect on Canada Day.
The jump at the pumps could be around three to seven cents per litre and is tied to a recent rise in oil prices.
"But with oil prices being so volatile and the fact that Brent Crude Oil is only up half a per cent and at the same time that West Texas Intermediate is up three per cent, there are some discrepancies that could mitigate or soften a potential impact," said GasBuddy's Head of Petroleum Patrick De Haan.

Hunter Brothers score four Sask Country Music Awards
The Hunter Brothers cleaned up at the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards (SCMA) in Assiniboia last weekend.
They won four awards as a group; the Fans' Choice Entertainer of the Year, the National/International Artist of the Year, the Interactive Artists of the Year, and the Achievement Award.
"It's one of those things that means a tremendous amount just because it is our home turf here in Saskatchewan," Ty Hunter said. "I think being there on the weekend, it was a recognition of how grateful we're for our community, locally and provincially."
Water levels improving at Lake Diefenbaker
A sizeable spring runoff in West Central Saskatchewan has improved the outlook for Lake Diefenbaker this summer.
According to the Water Security Agency (WSA), when compared to last year at this time, the levels are up over a metre.
This is significant news as the water level during the spring of 2022 prevented boats from being launched and irrigation was unavailable for some producers in the area.

SGI mulling expanded use of golf carts on local roads
A motion passed last week during the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) Convention could expand the usage of golf carts on roads.
The small four-wheel motorized vehicles are currently only permitted in municipalities with specific bylaws for transportation to and from golf courses during the daytime.
"Drivers must access the course using the most direct route and there are some other requirements as well," SGI Spokesperson Tyler McMurchy said.

Saskatchewan Rural and Remote Health Minister Everett Hindley said the additional spending through the EMS stabilization fund is aimed at assisting rural and remote ground ambulance staff.
