No candidates filed for Airdrie mayor with municipal election two months away
No one has filed to run for mayor in Airdrie, with the Oct. 20 municipal election two months away and the nomination deadline set for Sept. 22 at noon.
The city’s candidate register as of Wednesday, Aug. 20, shows 10 people have filed for council: Simisola Obasan, Tomisin (Tomi) Adenipekun, Chad Stewart, incumbent Darrell Belyk, Chris Glass, Rekha Mehay, Jay Raymundo, Mo Fahad Shaukat, Maulik Shah and Anthony Morvillo.
Council candidates being asked to take a "tax pledge"
Cochrane mayor and town council candidates are being asked to take a “tax pledge” ahead of the municipal election.
A webpage has been launched to bring taxes to the forefront of the discussion leading up to the Oct. 20 municipal election.
The group is asking mayoral and council candidates to pledge they will not vote for tax increases and work toward lowering them.
Residents are being encouraged to ask candidates to sign. They also want residents to add their voices to the conversation.
‘Protecting Cochrane’s identity’ — Don Leask seeks council seat
Don Leask is the latest candidate to enter the race for Cochrane town council in the upcoming municipal election on Oct. 20.
Leask says he is running to help protect Cochrane’s identity as a safe, family-friendly community at a time of rapid growth.
“With the rapid growth going on, we need leadership that ensures development is managed, and not at the cost of our town’s character,” he said in an interview with Cochrane Now yesterday.
Nagel proposes new riverfront park, permanent home for Farmers' Market
In his first major announcement as a mayoral candidate, Morgan Nagel is proposing a mixed-use riverfront park that would also serve as a permanent home for the Cochrane Farmers’ Market.
The park would be established on land recently purchased by the town beside the Bow RiversEdge Campground, adjacent to the popular Jim Uffelmann Memorial Park and the emerging Greystone community.
Fedeyko outlines priorities for Cochrane: Accountability, Community, Transparency
Cochrane councillor Marni Fedeyko has officially launched her campaign for a third term on town council, highlighting accountability, community engagement, and transparency as the cornerstones of her platform.
Together, they form the acronym ACT, something she says she has demonstrated in her first two terms.
Fedeyko says her decision to run again stems from a desire to address issues she has raised during her previous terms.
