Rocky View Schools to host info session for trustee candidates

Rocky View Schools (RVS) is inviting community members with a passion for leadership in public education to attend an upcoming information session on September 11 for prospective candidates to the RVS Board of Trustees. 

"Attendees will gain insight into the trustee’s role, learn how the division operates, explore how they can contribute to shaping the future of education in RVS and have an opportunity to ask questions," shared RVS.

Okotoks Mayor seeking re-election

Tanya Thorn announced on social media today (Aug. 26) that she is running for re-election as Okotoks Mayor in the upcoming municipal election.   

“As I begin this campaign, I look forward to connecting with you, hearing your hopes and dreams for our future, and continuing to put our community first,” she said in a Facebook post.  

East Cochrane association laying groundwork for candidates forum

The Cochrane Settlement Community Association, better known to many as East Cochrane, is finalizing details for a candidates’ debate.

Judy Stewart, of the organizing committee, says they want to spread the word early so candidates can keep it in mind when planning their campaigns.

“We hold one every election, and we draw a large crowd,” said Stewart, herself a former Cochrane mayor. “People seem to enjoy the opportunity it provides them to get to know the candidates.”

Airdrie election signs: what’s allowed, what’s not

 

Election signs have been allowed in Airdrie since Aug. 21, ahead of the Oct. 20 municipal election.

The city’s land-use bylaw says signs for municipal candidates “may be erected up to 60 days prior to the Election Day and must be removed within three days of Election Day.” This year, they must come down by Oct. 23.

‘Even if it means standing alone’: Obasan first in Airdrie council race, vows transparency

First-time council candidate Simisola Obasan is calling for a hospital in Airdrie, citing Sherwood Park’s facility as proof the city’s proximity to Calgary should not prevent it — and says she would “stand alone” or “walk away” from council if transparency is compromised.

Obasan, a triple-qualified lawyer and the first declared candidate in this year’s municipal election, said Airdrie’s growth demands a stronger healthcare infrastructure.

Who's running in the Chestermere municipal election?

The nomination period for Chestermere's upcoming municipal election ends in a month.

Since nominations opened on Jan. 1, five residents have placed their bid to run - four running for council, and one running for mayor.

The sole mayoral candidate is Shannon Dean, the current mayor of Chestermere. Dean was first elected in 2024 during a byelection.

As for councillor candidates, there are three running who are currently serving on council - Kiran Randhawa, Ritesh Narayan, and Janelle Sandboe.
