Paul Singh has become the second candidate to enter the race for town council.

Last night, Singh announced his candidacy in front of a large group of supporters.

Brent Wiley announces councillor bid

Brent Wiley is the second person to announce their plans to run in Strathmore's upcoming municipal election.

Raised in Regina, Wiley attended the university with a passion for visual arts and had no intention of joining a career in politics.

"I'm still a teacher in town. I work at Holy Cross Collegiate, and for 20 years I've been there. I love that job," said Wiley.

Wiley was first elected to council in the 2021 municipal election, a job which came alongside some unforeseen challenges.

New contender joins Airdrie’s 2025 council race ahead of fall election

Airdrie realtor David Dempsey has filed nomination papers for the 2025 municipal election, joining the race for one of six council seats.

In a May 13 interview, Dempsey said a conversation with friends last December pushed him to run, citing frustrations over rising taxes, slow project delivery, and what he called a gap in council’s advocacy efforts.

"We’re getting all these tax increases, but where is that money going?" he said. "We need things like the new hospital… but the delivery is very slow on those things."

Strathmore resident Claude Brown puts in bid to run for town council

Strathmore resident Claude Brown is the first registered candidate for the upcoming municipal election.

Brown placed his bid on Mar. 10 at the Strathmore Municipal Building and said he hopes to bring a new face to town council.

"I feel very qualified to do that. I've talked to a lot of people in town, and I really feel that I represent their points of view, and I want to bring that to council and do my part."

First candidate for council submits nomination papers

Dan Cunin has submitted his papers to municipal election returning officer Jaylene Robertson today and is set to become the first registered candidate for town councillor.

Cunin is making his fourth run at winning a seat on council and has been the first to register each time.

Cunin, a 22-year resident of Cochrane, says he continues to file his papers early for good reason. He wants to engage with as many Cochranites as possible to hear their concerns and ideas and share his own before the Oct. 20 election.
