Manitoba government funding 24-hour police security at province's largest hospital
The Manitoba government is providing more than $2 million to increase security efforts at the province's largest hospital, including funding police officers to man the facility 24 hours a day.
Two police officers will be deployed to the emergency department at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg due to rising safety concerns in and around the hospital.
"There's important work that's happening to make sure that we're involving law enforcement in the security solution at the (Health Sciences Centre)," Justice Minister Matt Wiebe told reporters on Tuesday.
'This is a scam'. Altona woman loses $20,000 in fraudulent online work scheme
An Altona woman is out $20,000 after she was taken advantage of by a fraudulent online work organization.
Looking for extra income opportunities, the woman had signed on to write reviews for products and online services in exchange for financial credits that she could redeem for money, unaware it was scam.
Altona Police Chief Dan Defer says, however, those credits could also be deducted, putting the person in 'debt' to the organization, if they didn't complete the, sometimes impossible, tasks. And that, he noted, is where things went wrong in this case.
