Portage-Lisgar re-elects Branden Leslie as Liberals clinch fourth consecutive term
The Liberal Party of Canada has won a fourth consecutive term in the 2025 federal election, while Conservative incumbent Branden Leslie retained his Portage-Lisgar seat with a commanding majority. He secure a return to Ottawa and the House of Commons with more than 69% of the popular vote in the electoral district, with over than 21,000 votes more than Robert Kreis who came in second.
Jagmeet Singh to step down as NDP Leader after losing seat
Jagmeet Singh says he will step down as the leader of the NDP as soon as a new interim leader is chosen.
Singh conceded defeat in his British Columbia riding of Burnaby Central and the party is at risk of losing official party status.
With the NDP at risk of losing official party status — and after losing his own riding — Singh said he'd be stepping down as leader once the party selects an interim replacement.
"We may lose sometimes and those losses hurt," Singh said, fighting emotion as he stood beside his wife on a stage in Burnaby, B.C.
Minivan crashes into Winkler Walmart
No injuries were reported in a single vehicle collision Monday morning in the Winkler Walmart parking lot.
According to Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt, the driver of a minivan collided with two vehicles in the parking lot, and subsequently hit the wall of the building causing considerable damage.
No further information is available at this time.

Canadians give Liberals 4th mandate; Carney wins Ottawa riding
The Canadian Press decision desk is projecting a Liberal government following a short, intense and heated federal election campaign.
As of 10:22 p.m. EDT, the Liberals had received 50 per cent of the popular vote while the Tories held 39 per cent.
Preliminary results for 43 ridings show the Liberals taking 28 seats and the Conservatives holding 21, with the Bloc Québécois holding four seats.
The last polls in British Columbia and Yukon closed at 10 p.m. EDT, following the Prairies and the other territories half an hour earlier.
RCMP respond to bus rollover near Ste. Agathe
At approximately 3:15pm Monday afternoon Niverville and St. Pierre Jolys RCMP officers responded to a school bus that had rolled on Highway 75 near Ste. Agathe.
According to eyewitnesses who contacted PembinaValleyOnline, the incident occurred on the northbound lanes side of Highway 75 on the south end of Ste. Agathe. In addition to RCMP, other emergency responders were also on scene.
Tough competition in the show ring for the Western Dairy Expo and 1st Annual Legends of the Industry Awards handed out
The Western Dairy Expo wrapped up Saturday in Saskatoon.
This year's event featured 200 Holstein and about 60 Jersey cows and heifers and was judged by Paul Trapp a product acquisition specialist with Semex USA out of Wisconsin, and his associate judge Jon Larson.

Richard Le sent a text to his 16-year-old son on Saturday at about 8 p.m., saying the rest of the family would be leaving the Lapu Lapu Day festival shortly. Instead, Richard, his wife Linh Hoang and their five-year-old daughter Katie were run down moments after the text was sent, Richard's brother, Toan, said Monday.
Police and witnesses have said a black SUV raced down a street lined with food trucks, scattering people in its wake, killing 11 and injuring dozens of others, some of whom remain in hospital in critical or serious condition.

Multi-species cover crops are proving to be a valuable tool in improving soil health and boosting farm productivity, according to ongoing research led by Dr. Bharat Shrestha at Beaverlodge Research Farm. Dr. Shrestha, the biology study lead in soil health and fertility development, is part of a collaborative project under the Peace River Living Lab initiative, funded by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Agricultural Climate Solutions - Living Lab program.
