Late season severe thunderstorms have Rainwatchers reporting varied totals for Labour Day

In what could be our final Severe Thunderstorm Warnings of the season, portions of the Pembina and Red River Valleys received rainfall late Labour Day Monday afternoon and early evening.

According to CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner, at one point, Environment Canada had Warnings in place for about a half dozen municipalities across the region including Lorne, Louise, Pembina, Dufferin, Thompson, Roland, Rhineland, Montcalm, Morris and Emerson-Franklin.

Mild and wet winter in store for Southern Manitoba

It is still summer, yet The Old Farmer's Almanac has just released its winter weather outlook.

Carol Connare is Editor of The Old Farmer's Almanac which released their 2026 edition, which, of course, includes forecasts for the upcoming seasons.

"For your region, we are calling for a warmer-than-normal winter," says Connare. "Of course, that doesn't mean that it will be balmy, because it's pretty cold there."

'Mercy of politics': Canadian farmers weigh plans as Chinese tariff hits canola price

As Chinese tariffs on Canadian canola products continue to hamper the cash price of one of the country's most valuable crops, farming experts say producers have big decisions ahead of them.

Market analyst Chuck Penner with LeftField Commodity Research said while future prices are down slightly, the cash price farmers receive for their canola, also known as the basis, is much lower.

Leslie prepares for fall session with focus on local concerns

After 38 years, family physician Dr. Brian Duff has retired from his practice in Morden.

Dr. Brian Duff grew up in Winnipeg. At the time the decision was made to move to Morden, he, along with his wife, Dr. Carol Holmes, also a physician, were new parents. 

Labour Day Severe Thunderstorm Warnings end

Updated at 7:05pm Monday, September 1st - A late season severe thunderstorm scenario developed across much of the Pembina and Red River Valleys Labour Day Monday afternoon.

Environment Canada issued a Severe Thunderstorm watch for the entire region mid-afternoon, with Severe Thunderstorm Warnings following. As of approximately 7pm Monday evening all Warnings had ended for areas west of the Red River. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remained in effect for most of Southern Manitoba.
