No serious injuries after collision near Elm Creek

No serious injuries were reported after a collision Tuesday afternoon near Elm Creek at the junction of Highways 13 and 2. According to RCMP the two-vehicle collision between a pick-up and an SUV was reported at 1:15 pm, and was responded to by Pembina Valley RCMP.

A 24 year old male, from Souris, was driving north on Highway 13 when he turned left onto Highway 2, but was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The male had entered the intersection when it was unsafe to do so.

The other driver, a 55 year old female from Winnipeg, suffered minor injuries.

Wintry start to Spring Break? It could be as Special Weather Statement issued

Ahead of what could be a wintry start to Spring Break, Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for a significant portion of Western and Central Manitoba including the Carman, Portage, Brandon, Souris and Virden areas. Generally speaking, areas south of Highway 23 are currently not part of the statement.

Liberals and Conservatives taking their federal election campaigns to Quebec

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and Liberal Leader Mark Carney are shifting their campaigns to Quebec.

Poilievre, who held a rally in Hamilton on Tuesday night with an estimated crowd of about 4,500 people, is expected at a news conference in Montmagny, Que., around noon and at a rally in Quebec City in the evening.

Carney, who spent the first few days of the campaign in Atlantic Canada, will be in Ontario today, scheduled for an announcement and a facility tour in Windsor, a facility tour in London and a rally in Kitchener.  

Winkler swimming lesson registration not that far away

Even with the weather warming up and feeling very Spring-like in recent days, we're still a little ways from the opening of the RCU Aquatic Centre in Winkler, but the big day will be here before you know it.

"We're going to be opening the Aquatic Centre, May 23rd, 2025," said Winkler Mayor Henry Siemens. "We have swimming registration dates, and again important to make note of in your calendar, residents of Winkler and Stanley have an opportunity to book starting May 14th for swimming registration. Non-residents have opportunity after that on May 15th, just one day later."
