The Member of Parliament for Provencher says Pierre Poilievre's by-election win on Monday sends a strong, clear message.
Poilievre claimed victory in the Alberta constituency of Battle River-Crowfoot. He took more than 80 per cent of the votes.
"I think that sends a strong, clear message that certainly the constituents of Battle River-Crowfoot wanted Pierre Poilievre representing them in Ottawa," says Ted Falk.
The by-election became necessary for Poilievre after losing his seat in Carleton in April's federal election.
Falk says that with Poilievre claiming victory on Monday, the next steps are for Elections Canada to review and confirm the results and then for him to be sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Battle River-Crowfoot. Immediately following that, he will be assigned an office in Ottawa and will have the right to take his seat in the House of Commons.
Falk says one of the big takeaways from Monday's victory was just how convincing a win it was.
"Canadians still want him as our leader," he says. "Conservatives want Pierre Poilievre to lead our party."
Falk notes that prior to being ousted in April, Poilievre had done an excellent job of "representing common sense, everyday Canadians" and leading the party in the House of Commons.
"I think the election results show that we were right," adds Falk. "That Pierre Poilievre should be back in the House of Commons leading the Conservative Party of Canada."
Parliament will resume sitting on September 15th. Falk says there will be many issues to be dealt with, including immigration, crime, economy, housing, and the hefty tariffs that Canada is being exposed to by its trading partners.
"These are all things that we know we need to start dealing with, once the House resumes on September 15th," adds Falk. "As Conservatives, we are going to be doing that, and I think Pierre will choose carefully the right path, and I know he will be focused on doing what's right for Canada to make sure that we restore Canada to its place."
Falk says he thinks their leader will be focused on the economy, questioning the Prime Minister's failed attempts to get a trade deal with the United States. Not only that, but he says Poilievre will be looking for answers to what has recently transpired with our trading partner in China imposing a massive tariff on canola exports.
With the resumption of Parliament now less than four weeks away, Falk says he looks forward to returning to Ottawa and representing the constituents of Provencher. Falk says he and the Conservatives will be focused on getting proper fiscal updates from the Liberal government, noting that earlier this year, the NDP and Bloc Quebecois supported the Liberals in authorizing nearly half a trillion dollars of spending, without a budget.
Falk says having Poilievre back in his seat in the House of Commons and leading the official opposition will be a very positive thing, not only for Conservatives but for Canada.
"Because he has a way of really holding the government to account and getting the answers that Canadians are looking for," he says. "So, I'm looking forward to that."
