The flea beetle is a common pest for farmers and gardeners alike in this corner of the province. However, there is more to the species than meets the eye. PSaskatchewan's Insect and Vertebrate Pest Management Specialist for the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. James Tansey, says that the term “flea beetle” covers approximately 5,000 species worldwide, in a subfamily called the Alticinae.

Echoes of classic muscle cars and today’s performance exotics can still be heard today after a very successful N49 Cruise for Hope which happened Saturday. This was the second time Pembina Counselling Centre (PCC) held the fundraiser, with 2024 the inaugural event. Altona's Millennium Exhibition Centre (MEC) was the starting point for the 95 vehicles registered, with the day ending at Morden’s Stardust Drive In with a stop along the way at Winkler's Hometown Ford for a car show.
U18 AAA Female Hawks carving out a hardworking identity
The Pembina Valley U18 AAA Female Hawks have started their preseason, and early on, Head Coach Matt Victor says the group is building an identity he and the players will be proud of.

"It's been exciting," Victor says with a grin. "We built our team at tryouts in early August, and we shutdown for a little bit, we had some players playing in the U15 softball nationals in Winkler. We fired up after that, got some practices in, and I really like what we've built so far, and the group we have."
Heritage Farms to open Winkler’s first craft brewery
Heritage Farms Brewing Company, the locally born beer brand that has quickly built a following across the province, is preparing to open its own brewing facility in Winkler. The new site, located on George Avenue in the southeast corner of the industrial park, will mark the city’s first craft brewery.

Build Canada Homes aims to build 4,000 housing units on federal land: Carney
The newly created Build Canada Homes agency will oversee plans to build 4,000 homes on six federally owned sites, as part of a $13 billion agency budget to speed up affordable home building, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Sunday.
Carney said that the $13 billion will offer financial incentives for builders to construct affordable homes and reduce upfront costs of affordable homebuilding.
Specific locations for the homes have not yet been announced, but Carney said they will be in Dartmouth, N.S., Longueuil, Que., Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton.
