Good eats for a good cause: The Bunker food truck is back

The Bunker’s Industrial Eats food truck is open in full swing this year, continuing their tradition of hosting a fundraiser lunch on The Bunker’s parking lot. We spoke to The Bunker's executive director Kevin Hildebrand last Thursday (May 22), before the lunch rush came by, and he noted the longevity of this fundraiser: “This is something we’ve been doing for a lot of years, on Thursdays over lunch”.  The lunches support the work of The Bunker Youth Drop-in Centre programs.

Water bombers grounded due to drones, Premier urges safety

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says widespread wildfires have the city of Flin Flon on the verge of evacuation while officials work to find places to put thousands more possible evacuees.

The city's 5,000 residents were told Tuesday to be ready to flee at a moment's notice. Hospital patients are being moved to safety.

Officials say the fire, threatening Flin Flon from the north, began Monday in the Saskatchewan town of Creighton and crossed the Manitoba boundary. The town's 1,200 residents have been asked to pack essentials and fuel up in case they’re told to leave.

Summer weather spurs warning from Altona police

Altona police are cautioning people against playing on or near local rail cars, noting it is always a dangerous move.

The warning comes after a concerned citizen reported seeing kids play on the top of parked rail cars in town, however, officers didn't see anyone when they arrived.

Police say, even if rail crews aren't actively working on the line, Bunge still has its own track mobile and rail cars can be moved or shuffled around without notice, quickly injuring anyone on or near them.

Song 'Unlikely Flowers' a tribute to late Darren Enns

CFAM Radio 950 was honoured to share a very personal song in memory of well a known member of the Altona community, and someone whose spirit and personality extended well beyond the town’s borders.

In studio we were joined by Shawn Enns, younger brother to the late Darren Enns who passed away April 29th about week shy of his 50th birthday. Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner personally knew Darren through his involvement in Special Olympics Manitoba programs. Darren's impact in the community was always positive and his love for music was incredible.

Mechanical issues delay opening day for Altona's pool

There's been a delay in the Altona Aquatic Centre's start to the season.

Originally slated to open this Saturday, the Town says unexpected mechanical issues have changed those plans.

During preparations, staff discovered that several pipes had cracked over the winter and, while repairs are nearly finished, more time is needed to finish filling the pool, balance the chemicals and conduct water quality testing.

The Town thanks the public for patience and understanding as it works to open the pool as soon as possible.
