Generations of singers to gather to celebrate a Manitoban choral tradition

Though music styles are always changing, love for music always remains. Soon, choir members from over the years will gather to celebrate a significant milestone in the Pembina Valley's history of music. 

“2024 marks the Central Manitoba Choral Association’s 40th season,” says Heather Clyde, the president of the association. “We're very excited to be celebrating such a milestone. We have had many years of great choral experiences.” 

Canadian government lists old NYC residence for $13M, surpassing cost of new luxury condo

Canada is selling its former Manhattan residence, which used to house its consulate general in New York.

The 12-room, five-bedroom apartment located on Park Avenue was listed Thursday at over $13 million, which is expected to exceed the purchase of its new $9 million Manhattan condo located on Billionaires' Row.

Global Affairs Canada said the new condo is smaller and more suitable, saying that the old unit, which was purchased in 1961 and last renovated in 1982, needed updates to the electrical, heating, ventilation and plumbing.

Conservative MP calls for emergency committee meeting to study violence against women

A Conservative member of Parliament is calling for an emergency meeting to launch a study on violence against women.

Michelle Ferreri has written a letter to fellow MPs on the House of Commons status of women committee requesting to  
immediately recall members for the study.

This comes after two witnesses invited to testify on their personal experience with domestic violence tearfully stormed out of a committee hearing last month that devolved into political bickering.

Boil Water Advisory issued for Red River Regional distribution system

A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for Pembina Valley Water Co-op customers on the Red River Regional distribution system. 

A distribution pump failure on Saturday led to the loss of water pressure throughout the system. According to the public notice issued by the Province, distribution depressurization can compromise the safety of the water supply; therefore, a boil water advisory has been issued to ensure public health protection in the following locations:

Farm safety important to remember with harvest season around the corner

With harvest right around the corner, a flurry of activity is set to descend don't the southeast, with safety being a high priority during those busy days.

Producers will be moving crops and on the road a lot, meaning they'll need to keep an eye out for a number of possible safety issues.

Robin Anderson, the Director of Programs and Communications at the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association, says keeping safe is very important.

In Miami, it has been 135 years since the construction of its treasured railway station — a building as important to the community as it is to Canadian history.  

Kagan and Giesbrecht return from 2024 Manitoba Summer Games

A pair of athletes from the Pembina Valley have returned home after competing in the 2024 Manitoba Summer Games in Dauphin. 

Staged every two years and alternating between summer and winter sporting events, the Games is the largest ongoing multi-sport event in the province. 

13-year-old Rebecca Kagan of Morden swims for the Winkler Barracudas and qualified for Team South. 

At the Games, she placed 4th in two races, 5th in another and earned a silver in the 4x500 metre Mixed Medley Relay Youth Mix.

Eric Fehr says he’s ‘proud to be from Winkler’ after staggering success of Falk Fehr Foundation’s fundraiser

In June, the Falk Fehr Foundation hosted the 2024 Hockey Champions Charity Tournament in Winkler. The golf tournament, an annual occurrence, is quickly becoming a fundraising powerhouse in the area.  

The Falk Fehr Foundation presented donations from the golf tournament to its three chosen charities on August 16th. Eric Fehr, who gives his name to the foundation, called it “an exciting day for the community and an exciting day for us.”
