Anglers reminded of new Manitoba sport fishing regulations

The Manitoba Wildlife Federation (MWF) is reminding anglers to be familiar with the new size and possession limits across the province when it comes to catching and keeping walleye.

For years anglers had a choice between two different possession limits; a general angling license or a conservation license. But that has now changed to one possession limit across the province when it comes to Manitoba's most popular fish, walleye also known as pickerel.

Splish Splash Water Park: Launch yourself into summer days in Morden

Summer isn’t complete without some fun in the water. Splish Splash Water Park in Morden offers it in spades.

Marshall’s role at Splish Splash is multifaceted — he calls himself the “rule-giver,” the “life jacket giver,” and sometimes, a lifeguard. Regardless of the role he takes, he is always near the water.

“[I get] into the water sometimes [too], but not always on purpose,” he says.

The South Central Cubs had an impressive performance during the provincial championships — they returned home with a first-place victory.

“I love it,” he says. “I absolutely love it.”

This year, the provincials took place in Brandon, where the 15U team went undefeated.

Morden Residents Encouraged to Continue Composting Despite Temporary Setback

Morden is currently experiencing major changes to its composting program. Due to the unexpected closure of Enviro-Clean, the city's curbside compost pickup is currently being redirected to the landfill. The city is actively seeking alternative composting solutions and encourages residents to continue using their green bins to maintain composting routines.

"We were caught very off guard that our curbside compost pickup no longer had a home, so we had no other options than to take it to the landfill, which was heartbreaking for the city," said Mayor Nancy Penner.

Mother sees need in community, addresses it with Shoulder to Shoulder autism support group

Local families who would like to share the journey of having a child with autism — in all its beauty and its obstacles — have a place to gather and connect in Plum Coulee and Altona thanks to Tiffany Fehr.

Fehr is the organizer of Shoulder to Shoulder, the area’s first autism support group.

"When we got the diagnosis for our daughter few years ago, I was looking for somebody or anything that had some kind of support group for parents to help us,” she says. “It's hard to relate to others that don't experience what we go through.”

Tips and tricks for swimming in high humidity at Winkler Aquatic Centre

With the recent stretches of high temperatures, one would think that aquatic centres like Winkler's would be the place to be. The story, however, is a little different due to the high humidity that has accompanied the temperatures.

Dean Klassen and Brooke Thiessen, co-programmers at the Winkler Aquatic Centre, say that there seems to be a trend of people opting to stay indoors on particularly humid days, which creates some slower afternoons at the pool.
