A non-profit run by passionate volunteers, every dollar from the fund-raiser will go towards covering operating expenses, explained Kim Klassen, a volunteer since the organization's inception 10 years ago.

"The rescue faces many challenges," she said. "Increases in operation costs has us relying heavily on the support of businesses, individuals and fund raisers."

Started a decade ago by Altona residents, Stan and Tracy Harder, Furever Friends began as a way to help the many stray cats roaming the community - many of which appeared to be starving and/or ill. Quickly, others with the same concern and love for cats joined in on the rescue effort.

Today, with six core members and 25 foster homes, the organization has helped over 1,000 injured and abandoned cats throughout the Pembina Valley.

"Rescued cats are spayed and neutered and receive necessary vet care," explained Klassen. "Some cats, such as our Recovery Rock Stars, require extra care due to problems resulting from injuries and dental issues."

In partnership with the Town of Altona, Furever Friends also leads a trap, neuter and release program.

"This program has proven to be a vital part of the rodent control in the town, and feral cats who are not able to adjust to the adoption in a home are looked after by the Feral Cat Givers," added Klassen.

Occasionally, the organization also offers free spay and neuters for selected cats.

In addition, Furever Friends operates a Feral Cat Shelter, providing warmth and safety for feral cats in the community during the frigid winter months.

Many great prizes up for grabs!

Up for grabs in this year's Summer Raffle are two prize packages, an early bird draw and a grand prize.
