Walk & Run to Remember blows past expected milestone, sets new participant record

Organizers knew it would be a milestone year for the Curtis Klassen Memorial Fund Run & Walk to Remember, which took place Saturday morning in Altona. What they didn't know ahead of time was just how big of a year it would be.

"We knew today we would be able to announce we have raised over $100,000 to date with these events, but I'm pleased to let you know we will be looking at the $120,000 mark, so $120,000 over the years and this is our 13th Run and Walk event, so it's just phenomenal," shared committee member Eric Hildebrand Saturday morning.

Winkler's Kaleb Peters thought it might be possible but he wasn't overly expecting to be drafted by a WHL team, but as the standout athlete was gearing up for a ball game, he was informed he was selected by the Tri-City Americans.

"I was warming up for a high school baseball game with NPC," the 5'11" defender says with a smile. "One of my buddies was on the other team, he was a goalie for us this year, he came and told me I got drafted. It was shocking and very exciting for me."

$10,000 grant supports reconciliation and skill-building for nurses at Boundary Trails Health Centre

To celebrate National Nursing Week, the RBC Foundation is donating $10,000 to support nursing education at Boundary Trails Health Centre (BTHC), a move that leaders say comes at a critical time for healthcare workers and aligns with growing calls for cultural awareness and reconciliation.

The donation will not only jumpstart paused nursing education days but also support a new Indigenous-led cultural safety training initiative, supported by BTHC Foundation Executive Director Shannon Samatte-Folkett.
