Broncos comeback falls just short in loss to Blades
The Swift Current Broncos (28-31-1-3) played well enough to win Wednesday night, but a last-second goal in the second period by the Saskatoon Blades (45-14-4-1) stood up as the game winner in a 3-2 final score.
The Broncos started off strong as the Blades didn’t record their first shot on net until nearly halfway through the opening frame. That allowed Swift Current to take a 1-0 lead.
Broncos fall 7-3 in Moose Jaw
The Swift Current Broncos (28-30-1-3) didn’t give up a lot Sunday afternoon, but the Moose Jaw Warriors (38-22-0-3) were as opportunistic as can be, scoring seven times on 24 shots in a 7-3 final.
Swift Current went to the power play just 2:19 into the game and racked up shots on net, but were unable to solve Jackson Unger and open the scoring.
WHL announces postponement of Broncos game in Moose Jaw
The Western Hockey League announced today the postponement of the WHL Regular Season game scheduled for Saturday, March 11 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre in Moose Jaw between the Swift Current Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors due to adverse weather and unsafe travel conditions in south Saskatchewan.
Saturday’s game between the Broncos and Warriors will be rescheduled to Sunday, March 12 at 4:00pm. Tickets from March 11 will be honoured on the rescheduled date.
Broncos drop 12-round shootout to Warriors
The Swift Current Broncos (28-29-1-3) had a 3-0 lead after one period of play Friday night, but the Moose Jaw Warriors (37-22-0-3) rallied with three goals in the second before winning in a 12-round shootout at the InnovationPlex.
Swift Current had to weather an early storm by the Warriors as Moose Jaw quickly jumped out to a 5-0 advantage on the shot clock, but the Broncos were able to get through the early push without surrendering a goal.
Special teams a key factor as Broncos lose to Hitmen
The Swift Current Broncos (28-28-1-2) went 0-for-6 on the power play while the Calgary Hitmen (25-26-5-3) went 2-for-3 on theirs as the Broncos dropped a 4-3 game at the Scotiabank Saddledome Sunday afternoon.
The Broncos weathered an early storm as the Hitmen racked up five shots on net in the first 2:30 of the game. Reid Dyck came up with some early saves to keep the game scoreless.
Broncos rout Oil Kings for third straight win
The Swift Current Broncos (28-27-1-2) had goals from seven different players while Joey Rocha made 24 saves for his first career shutout in an 8-0 rout of the Edmonton Oil Kings (8-49-3-0) Saturday night.
Rocha’s first big save came in the opening seconds of the game as the Oil Kings had a 2-on-1 rush, but Rocha denied Cole Miller on his shot from the left wing.
Broncos opportunistic in 5-2 win over Tigers
The Swift Current Broncos (27-27-1-2) were held to just 18 shots on Tuesday, but scored five times on those 18 shots in a 5-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers (24-24-8-1).
The Broncos jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but not before weathering an early storm from the Tigers. A turnover behind the Bronco net just seconds into the game resulted in some scrambly moments for Swift Current, but they were able to escape the pressure without surrendering a goal.
Dyck's shutout leads Slough Sharks over Warriors
The Lake Diefenbaker Slough Sharks (26-27-1-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 3:20 into the game while Reid Dyck shut the door with a 31-save shutout as the Slough Sharks blanked the Moose Jaw Warriors (35-20-0-3) 4-0 Saturday night.
Lake Diefenbaker found the back of the net on the game’s opening shift. On a three-on-two rush, Connor Hvidston sent the puck to Josh Filmon on left wing before Filmon found Caleb Wyrostok heading to the front of the net.
Turnovers prove costly as Broncos fall to Warriors
The Swift Current Broncos (25-27-1-2) heavily outshot the Moose Jaw Warriors (35-19-0-3) by a 39-24 margin Friday night, but turnovers in the defensive ended up in the back of the net on three occasions as the Broncos fell 4-3 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
Both teams racked up 12 shots on net through the opening 20 minutes and the Broncos nearly opened the scoring on a dump in.
Broncos finish strong in loss to Blazers
The Swift Current Broncos (25-26-1-2) scored three goals in the opening 10:06 of the third period to make things interesting, but the Kamloops Blazers (37-10-4-1) had built up a 5-0 lead through 40 minutes as they held on for a 6-3 win.
The Broncos went to the penalty kill just over two minutes into the game, but nearly opened the scoring shorthanded. Connor Hvidston and Braeden Lewis took off on a two-on-one rush, and Lewis was denied after taking the pass on right wing.
