Broncos battle back but fall 4-2 to Winnipeg
The Swift Current Broncos (25-25-1-2) went stride for stride with the Winnipeg ICE (44-7-1-0) Monday, but a power play goal by the ICE with 7:31 remaining in regulation was the difference in a 4-2 final score.
Winnipeg opened the scoring 6:58 into the game while the two teams were playing four-on-four. Graham Sward gained the Bronco blue line and slid the puck to Zack Ostapchuk in the right circle, who snapped a shot past the blocker of Reid Dyck.
Slow start costs Broncos in loss to Wheat Kings
The Swift Current Broncos (25-24-1-2) had a slow start Saturday night, falling behind 2-0 to the Brandon Wheat Kings (22-24-7-0) in the first period and playing catch up the rest of the way, ultimately falling 3-1.
The Broncos had a bit of a tough start to the game as the Wheat Kings came out with jump and racked up shots on net. Joey Rocha stood tall in the Broncos crease to keep the game scoreless early, but Brandon would eventually open the scoring on the power play.
Second-period lull sees Broncos fall to Winnipeg
The Swift Current Broncos (25-23-1-2) played a pretty solid game against the Winnipeg ICE (41-7-1-0) Wednesday night, but a 7:55 stretch in the second period saw Winnipeg score five goals as the Broncos fell 5-3 at the Wayne Fleming Arena.
Swift Current came out of the gate strong in the first period, outshooting the ICE 14-6 and generating multiple high-quality scoring chances. The team did just about everything but score as the two teams went into the intermission scoreless.
Broncos rally for third-period comeback in Brandon
The Swift Current Broncos (25-22-1-2) scored four straight goals in the third period, rallying from a 4-3 deficit after two periods to defeat the Brandon Wheat Kings (21-23-7-0) by a 7-5 score Tuesday night.
The Broncos had to weather a bit of an early storm as the Wheat Kings quickly jumped up out to a 4-0 advantage on the shot clock, but Joey Rocha stood tall to keep the game scoreless.
Second period the difference as Broncos fall to Raiders
The Swift Current Broncos (24-22-1-2) had a tough second period Saturday night, giving up three goals and also having one of their own waived off in a 4-1 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders (20-28-3-0).
Swift Current started off the game on the right foot, jumping out to a 1-0 lead just 34 seconds in. Ryder Ritchie tried to pass the puck across his own zone, but it was intercepted by Caleb Wyrostok.
Wyrostok took a few strides in toward the top of the right circle before firing a shot past the blocker of Max Hildebrand for his 16th goal of the season.
Dyck's first shutout, Hvidston's four points lead Broncos over Raiders
Reid Dyck made 19 saves for his first career WHL shutout while Connor Hvidston had a goal and three assists to lead the Swift Current Broncos (24-21-1-2) to a 4-0 win over the Prince Albert Raiders (19-28-3-0) Friday night.
The Broncos went to an early power play when Carter Anderson was called for holding, but couldn’t take advantage as the game remained scoreless.
Broncos end US Division swing with win over Spokane
The Swift Current Broncos (23-21-1-2) took a 3-0 lead into the third period on their way to a 3-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs (9-33-2-2) Friday night to wrap up their U.S. Division road trip.
The Broncos took advantage of Spokane’s struggling power play early in the game, jumping out to a 1-0 lead just 5:44 into the game.
Josh Filmon sent a backhand pass to the net from the right circle and it was redirected off the post by Connor Hvidston. Hvidston then got his own rebound in the crease and tapped in his 12th goal of the season.
Broncos lose penalty-filled affair to Americans
The Swift Current Broncos (22-21-1-2) and Tri-City Americans (24-16-4-1) both received eight power plays Wednesday night, but the Broncos were held to one power play goal while the Americans scored five en route to a 6-1 final.
Tri-City’s first power play goal came early in the first period when Jake Sloan redirected a puck toward the crease that Reid Dyck inadvertently kicked into the net, giving Tri-City a 1-0 lead just 4:35 into the game.
Broncos push late, but fall 4-2 to Thunderbirds
The Swift Current Broncos (22-20-1-2) had a strong push in the third period, but a pair of late penalties ended the comeback attempt as the Seattle Thunderbirds (34-8-1-1) held on for a 4-2 win.
The Broncos came out strong Tuesday night, generating chances offensively in the opening minutes and forcing Seattle to take a hooking penalty just 2:12 after puck drop.
Broncos drop overtime game to Silvertips
The Swift Current Broncos (22-19-1-2) and Everett Silvertips (23-21-1-0) played an entertaining game in front of 7,400 fans at the Angel of the Winds Arena Saturday night, with the home side taking a 4-3 overtime win.
The Broncos jumped out of the gate with some early chances, including a breakaway for Josh Davies who was denied by the left pad of Tyler Palmer.
