It looked like a lot of people were trying to take advantage of it, with bike and walking paths full last night, and the odd lawnmower going, too.

Do I need Facebook or Google to get my local news?

Social media and search engine giants, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google have decided to no longer share Canadian news links after the Online News Act, or Bill C-18, was passed in June.

Does this mean the end of access to local news for you?

In short, NO.

Here are some of the frequently asked questions we get surrounding the stories we tell and the changing landscape of news on social media in Canada.

If Facebook blocks PembinaValleyOnline's posts, how do I find my local news?

Canadians now blocked from seeing news on Facebook

Discovering news articles, photos and videos on Facebook and Instagram will soon become a relic of the past, as Meta has begun ending news availability in Canada.

Already many Facebook and Instagram users in the Pembina Valley have noticed they no longer have access to posts from PembinaValleyOnline, CFAM Radio 950, Country88 and Eagle 93.5 FM .
