Winkler woman facing weapons charges after Monday incident
A 31 year old Winkler woman is facing several weapons related charges after an incident Monday over the noon hour at a business on Roblin Boulevard East.
According to Winkler Police Service, the call initially came in as a report of a female who had pulled a knife, and was seen waving it around inside the business.
Further investigation revealed a female shopper had encountered the suspect holding the knife, who then grabbed one of the shopper’s young children.
The mother grabbed the suspect’s arm holding the knife, and was able to get it away from her.
Wind Warning continues, Rainwatchers for May 30th
An intense Colorado low has once again drenched already soaked and soggy areas of Southern Manitoba, with substantial rainfall totals being reported Tuesday morning in the Pembina and Red River Valleys.
Wind Warning expanded eastward, overland flooding concerns renewed with significant rainfall underway
Update Thursday, May 30th at 5:20 p.m. - Environment Canada has expanded the previously in place Wind Warning to the western Red River Valley, now including all of Southwestern Manitoba as well as the Morden, Carman, Winkler, Altona and Morris regions.
Northerly winds will begin to strengthen Monday evening, and reach 60 km/h gusting to 90 km/h late tonight. The strong winds will continue through the overnight hours into Tuesday morning. The gusty conditions will diminish Tuesday afternoon as the low moves into northwestern Ontario.
Wild weather ride to start the week with Warnings and Special Weather Statements issued
With a powerful Colorado low impacting the region over the next two days, parts of the province will see significant rainfall, strong wind gusts and potentially severe thunderstorms.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for all of Southern Manitoba, with somewhere between 30 and 50mm of rainfall expected by Tuesday night, as well as a Wind Warning for all of Southwestern Manitoba, as far east as the Pilot Mound and Manitou regions.
Three-vehicles involved in Wednesday evening collision south of Winkler
Emergency crews responded to a three-vehicle collision south of the City of Winkler Wednesday evening near the Village of Schanzenfeld.
Pembina Valley RCMP responded to the call at the intersection of Highway 32 and Road 9 North at approximately 5:45 pm.
RCMP says all three drivers were treated at the scene by paramedics with Emergency Medical Services.
The initial investigation has determined that one of the vehicles was attempting to make a u-turn when the collision occurred.
Pembina Valley RCMP continues to investigate.
Two people nabbed in Winkler - Morden Police Drug Trafficking Investigation
A joint effort between the Morden and Winkler Police Departments has resulted in two people facing drug charges and over $6000 dollars worth of cocaine being taken off the streets of the two communities.
On Tuesday around 9:56 pm, officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 14, where two people were taken into custody as part of a drug trafficking investigation. There were two children in the car at the time who were placed in the care of a family member.
Morden Police kept busy last week with break-ins, assaults and a scam
Last week in Morden, a couple of altercations took place unrelated to each other.
The first instance took place, on May 13th, in a licensed premises, where an assault took place during an altercation. The victim said they were struck in the head with a glass bottle, pulled to the ground and further assaulted. The victim sustained minor injuries and police subsequently arrested a 29-year-old Morden resident and released her on an undertaking with a July 26th court date in Morden.
Main & Muirham collision Thursday evening under investigation
Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision just before 9:00 pm Thursday evening.
Police attended the scene along with fire and ambulance personnel.
According to Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt, a vehicle travelling westbound on Muirhum Drive collided with a southbound vehicle on Main Street at the intersection of the two roadways.
Both drivers were examined by paramedics. One vehicle was no longer driveable and towed from the scene.
The collision is still under investigation.

Another rainy day in Southern Manitoba has brought more precipitation to regions which have already had their fill of the wet stuff over the past several weeks, as yet another moisture laden low pressure system crossed the province Thursday, and continues to bring shower activity Friday morning to some areas.
At least it's not raining on May Long, right?
In true Southern Manitoba fashion, one that historically sees many use May Long Weekend as the unofficial kick-off to Summer activities, the refrain of, "Hey, at least it's not raining on May Long," may be the positive spin we need to take looking at the forecast for Thursday and Friday.
