Barbara Joy puts new spin on Christmas lullaby

A local music therapist is sharing her version of 'Away in the Manger (Sweet Jesus)' as a reminder of Jesus' humble beginnings.

"This is a lullaby I have loved to sing," says Barbara Joy. "It's often sung by children and I just felt like I wanted to do it as an artist, and add something contemporary to it."

The song carries much nostalgia for many church-goers, including images of little kids dressed as angels, wise men, or camels, says Joy.

20-year-old song gets new life this Christmas

A local singer and ministry leader is sharing some Christmas music online as well as in person this weekend.

In the past year, Kelly Wiens wrote and released a seven-song EP titled I Worship You.

"It was released on all the platforms in June," says Wiens. "I didn't put a whole lot of effort in sharing it with the world as the big agenda this year seemed to be rooting and planting ourselves as a family in Winnipeg."

The family moved from Saskatchewan and bought a house in the city on July 1.

Local music teacher releases new Christmas original with family

Heidi Korte is releasing a Christmas song that includes back-ups from her family and has some 'Finnish'-ing touches.

Korte recently released a music video starring her family for a Christmas original called 'Flying High o'er a Silent Night.'

"In this song, I'm joined by my brother, Steven, his wife, Melissa, and their three kids, Elsie, Gilead, and Eliorah. They're used to my shenanigans."

Doors of Perception: Local artist marks the holidays in his own original way

Christmas is less than a month away, and it is time to start thinking about the holidays and what you are going to give that special someone.  One of the popular places in the city to find gifts is the Forks, and one of the truly unique shops at the Forks is the Jordan Van Sewell Gallery. It is the perfect place to find something for that person in your life that is really hard to buy for.
