Traffic was slowed in front of Kal Tire in Steinbach Thursday afternoon following a collision.

It happened before 4 pm along Highway 52.

The Steinbach Fire Department, along with RCMP and EMS were all on scene.

According to Steinbach Fire Chief Kel Toews, the rear-ender sent two people to hospital with undetermined injuries. The crash involved two vehicles.

No further details are available at this time.

A provincial spokesperson says recent rain is allowing for more fire-related restrictions to be lifted in Manitoba.

Kristin Hayward is Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for the Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS). She says on Friday at 8 am, all provincial travel and burn restrictions will be lifted in our province, with the exception of backcountry travel within boundaries of an active fire. In those locations, a travel permit will be required. Having said that, Hayward notes municipalities have the ability to set their own restrictions.

The Reeve for the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn says monthly meetings between southeastern Manitoba municipalities are helping move shared concerns forward—especially on key issues like healthcare, infrastructure, and cell service. 

The Manitoba government is moving forward with plans to redesign the busy intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 5 near Carberry, the site of a tragic 2023 minibus crash that killed 17 people. However, the preferred design option, a Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) intersection, has sparked significant controversy among local residents, truckers, farmers, and elected officials.

The South East Equity Coalition (SEEC) hosted its second annual “Get Your Benefits Clinic” on June 25, welcoming the community to learn more about the services available to them and access over ten different service providers. 

Canada's elections commissioner said Wednesday she has no evidence to suggest the federal election result in April was affected by foreign interference, disinformation or voter intimidation — even though the volume of complaints about the campaign shot way up.

In a preliminary report, Commissioner Caroline Simard said her office received more than 16,000 complaints about the spring campaign that ended on April 28 — seven times the number of complaints received in the 2019 and 2021 elections.

Sen. Patrick Brazeau is said to be recovering after collapsing on the Senate floor on Wednesday in the midst of debate on the federal government's major projects bill.

Brazeau, 50, rose to speak shortly after 4 p.m. before falling over sideways onto the floor.

A Senate spokesman says Brazeau appears to be recovering following an examination by paramedics.

In part one of a two part conversation with former MJHL coach Harry Mahesh, who is now an assistant coach with the AHL champions Abbotsford Canucks of the AHL, he talks about his time in the MJHL as a player and coach, re-discovering his love of the game and more.

Being called a champion is still taking some getting used to, according to Mahesh. "I mean, it really hasn't fully sunk in yet," he says from his home in British Columbia. "It's got a nice ring to it, though."

The Steinbach Regional Secondary School donated poutine day sales to the Red Cross to help with wildfire aid. One day sales amounted to 4000 dollars.   

Cam Kelbert, grade 9 and 10 principal at the SRSS, says that the school was watching the situation provincially and wanted to get involved.
