More fire evacuees in Manitoba are returning home today. 

According to the Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS), approximately 905 evacuees from the town of Lynn Lake and Marcel Colomb First Nation (Black Sturgeon) are returning home today after the mandatory evacuation notices were lifted for these communities.

One of the two people killed in a rockfall in Banff National Park has been identified as 70-year-old Jutta Hinrichs of Calgary.

The University of Alberta, in a statement, says Hinrichs was an educator in the department of occupational therapy in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. 

She retired last summer.

Her body was found shortly after a slab of mountain suddenly gave way Thursday afternoon, collapsing on hikers at a popular trail near Bow Glacier Falls, about 200 kilometres northwest of Calgary.

Search teams located a second body Friday following a massive rockfall off a hiking trail in Banff National Park.

“RCMP are notifying their next of kin and no further information is available at this time,” read a statement issued by Mounties and Parks Canada.

A 70-year-old woman from Calgary was first found dead at the site of Thursday's rock slide at Bow Glacier Falls, north of Lake Louise.

Three others were taken to hospital and were reported in stable condition.

The community is invited to take part in a special parade to mark a milestone birthday. 

Sonny is turning 19 on Saturday, June 21, and his mother, Mira Plett, says a ride-by from community members would mean so much to their family. 

RCMP in Manitoba are asking the public to be on the lookout for a suspect wanted in connection to a double homicide in Victoria Beach.

On Friday morning, at approximately 2 am, Powerview RCMP received a report of a possible shooting on Hampton Road. Officers responded and upon arrival discovered the bodies of a 29-year-old male from Winnipeg and a 41-year-old female from Victoria Beach. Police say the matter is being investigated as a double homicide.

Hometown hero, Jonathan Toews, is coming home. 

Toews, the former captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, hasn't been on the ice since the 2022-23 season as he dealt with Chronic Immune Response Syndrome. His final game with the Blackhawks was on April 14, 2023, and he hasn't played since. 

Late last year, Toews went on a healing journey in India where he underwent a detox, in hopes of getting his syndrome under control.

John Braun, 94, of Winnipeg formerly of Plum Coulee, passed away Monday, June 16th at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by 4 children and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Louise. 
The funeral service for John Braun will be held Monday, June 23rd at 2:30pm at Niverville Community Fellowship with a reception to follow. A private burial will take place.

In what turned out to be a rollercoaster of a season, 16-year-old goaltender Delaney Dreger played regularly for the Lorette Comets but also ended up in the crease for nine different teams throughout the year.

Charities across southeast Manitoba are receiving funds, thanks to the generosity of donors and the work of the Steinbach Community Foundation (SCF). 

On Wednesday, June 18, SCF hosted their Annual General Meeting and Grant Award Night, drawing a crowd of supporters, charity representatives, friends, and family to celebrate the impact being made. 

With just a few months left before opening day, excitement is building at Parkhill School in Steinbach. 

On Tuesday, the Hanover School Division board of trustees toured the new school to see the construction progress firsthand. While there is still finishing work to be done, officials say everything remains on schedule for the September start.
