Local communities partner to bring new team to Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League
After a lot of hard work by some dedicated people, the communities of Ile des Chenes and Ste. Anne are combining to bring a new team to the Manitoba Women's High School Hockey League.
"We were accepted into the Manitoba Women's High School Hockey League this year," explains Ryan Dreger, a member of the parent committee which helped get the team off the ground. "We've put together a co-op between Ecole Pointe-Des-Chenes and Gabrielle-Roy, that's Ste. Anne and Ile des Chenes, the two schools are going to work together and they're going to compete this year in the league."

Mennonite Heritage Village temporarily pauses artifact donations to tackle backlog
If you've been planning to donate a family heirloom or historical item to the Mennonite Heritage Village Museum (MHV) in Steinbach, you might need to hang onto it a little longer.
Temporary Moratorium
The museum has put a temporary moratorium on accepting new artifact donations until October 1st, according to Senior Curator Andrea Klassen. The pause is needed so staff can catch up on processing a large influx of items already in their care.
Hanover approves public event venue that was already in operation
Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover has approved a conditional use order, allowing an outdoor event venue to continue operating.
Rosengard Haven is located along Road 31N, south of Roseville Drive, southeast of Kleefeld. According to Hanover Planning Manager Jeremy Neufeld, Rosengard Haven has been operating as an outdoor event venue for multiple years without a permit. Neufeld says the nature of this business was brought to Administration's attention through the request for an event liquor license.
Manitoba premier agrees to support reconstruction in region of war-torn Ukraine
Manitoba's government has signed an agreement to support an area of Ukraine in its reconstruction efforts, including in the areas of agriculture and utilizing the expertise of Manitoba Hydro.
Premier Wab Kinew made the announcement in Calgary following the G7 leaders' summit in nearby Kananaskis. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had been scheduled to meet with Kinew but left early to go home.
Zelenskyy told the G7 that overnight Russian attacks killed 15 people and injured more than 150 in Ukraine and he called for support from allies.
Carney guided the G7 through the 'diplomatic Rockies,' says expert
Prime Minister Mark Carney pulled off a successful performance hosting the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alta., say some world leaders and foreign policy experts commenting on his perceived pragmatism and savviness.
Fen Osler Hampson, international affairs professor at Carleton University, said Carney guided the G7 "through the diplomatic Rockies," navigating "shifting weather" on the global front and avoiding "avalanches and treacherous cliffs."

Construction slowing traffic on Highway 12
Traffic is moving slowly on Highway 12 due to ongoing construction.
Earlier today, northbound drivers looking to turn left into Blumenort were rerouted, and that intersection has since reopened.
However, construction continues to impact travel. Highway 12 northbound is reduced to a single lane starting just past PR 311 and continuing up to Road 42 North.
Wildfire evacuees continue returning home in Manitoba, Saskatchewan
Wildfire evacuees continued to make their way home in some Manitoba communities Tuesday, but there were hurdles.
Tataskweyak Cree Nation lifted its evacuation order Monday evening, then told the community's 2,400 residents Tuesday morning the return was being delayed due to problems with the water system.
"Water tests came back (with) high aluminum. The pipes and reservoir will need to be cleaned and samples taken after the cleaning," said a message posted on the chief and council's Facebook page.
Another measles exposure site identified in Steinbach
A church in Steinbach has been identified as an exposure site for measles.
Our province announced today that Steinbach Church of God, along McKenzie Avenue is one of four new exposure sites. The exposure happened on June 1st between 9:45 am and 2 pm. Anyone who was there during that time is asked to monitor symptoms until June 23rd.
Today's announcement comes four days after the QuickCare Clinic in Steinbach was identified as an exposure site.
