The Country Classics Car Club surprises seniors in Niverville
The Country Classics Car Club rolled into Niverville last week with a surprise for local seniors.
Sandra Kihn, a member of the club, says it’s not unusual for them to visit senior homes, and it's something they enjoy doing throughout the season. This is their first official stop of the year was at the Niverville Heritage Centre.

Halting spy operation placed CSIS team in unnecessary danger, watchdog report says
A new spy watchdog report says an overseas Canadian Security Intelligence Service operation was suddenly halted by government officials, "creating unnecessary danger for the CSIS team" and raising questions about ministerial accountability.
The National Security and Intelligence Review Agency found no written records indicating the decision to suspend the operation had been made by the CSIS director or the minister of public safety.

Former Steinbach resident flees Flin Flon not sure if she will ever see her home again
A woman, formerly from Steinbach, was among those who fled Flin Flon Wednesday, as wildfires burned out of control nearby.
The evacuation order came down Wednesday afternoon, and Helga Wiens who lives in the city of about 5,000 people, says by then she had already packed her bags.
Wiens says the pre-evacuation alert came down one day earlier, on Tuesday. Wiens, who works at a bank, says her boss happens to sit on Creighton City Council. On Wednesday at approximately 3 pm he came back to work and told staff that an evacuation alert would soon come down for Flin Flon.
Traffic slows near Clearspring Centre during construction on exit lane
Traffic has slowed down just outside the Clearspring Centre in Steinbach, as it completes construction on one of its exit lanes.
The mall says it is redoing the lane which leaves the centre onto Highway 12. It notes the entrance lane remains open.
Local school division praises community's response to measles notification
The Seine River School Division (SRSD) is grateful for how the community has responded to news of a measles case at one of its high schools.
On Friday, the province sent out a notification stating that people at Collège Lorette Collegiate on May 12 between 8:20 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. may have been exposed to the disease.

Louise Friesen, 96, of Winnipeg formerly of Crystal City, passed away Tuesday, May 27th at Winnipeg. She is survived by 2 daughters, 4 sons, 1 sister, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband George, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and 1 grandson.
The funeral service for Louise Friesen will be held Saturday, May 31st at 1:30pm at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford Street, with burial prior to the service at Sage Creek Cemetery.
