The Pioneer Days Parade is taking place this Friday, celebrating some of the unique heritage of Steinbach.
The forecast calls for sun, so bring along a hat, sunscreen, and some water to keep cool. While you enjoy the sun make sure to stay safe when grabbing some sweet treats from the street.
Police ticket motorist going 173 km/h down Trans Canada; says she was unaware of her speed
Ste. Anne Police stopped two motorists this last week driving more than 170 kilometres per hour (km/h).
Officers stopped one vehicle on Highway 12, travelling 179 km/h. The next day, a different driver was caught driving 173 km/h on the Trans Canada Highway. The second driver admitted that she was unaware of her speed, but that she usually drives between 130 and 140 km/h on her daily commute.
One youth injured in two-ATV collision southwest of Steinbach
One youth was transported to hospital in Winnipeg following an ATV collision in the RM of Hanover Wednesday evening.
At 8:40 p.m., Steinbach RCMP were informed that two ATVs had collided with each other on Road 32 East (Bristol Road) just south of Road 34 North which is just over two miles south of Highway 52.
Police say three youths were involved and only two were wearing helmets.
Man sentenced in '23 fatal shooting in Blumenort
A Manitoba judge has ordered a jail sentence for a man involved in a fatal shooting nearly two years ago in Blumenort.
On August 1st, 2023, at approximately 7:45 pm, police received a report that a firearm had been discharged inside an apartment building along Crestview Lane in Blumenort.
Officers from the Steinbach RCMP detachment, along with EMS, responded to the call and located a 27-year-old male inside the residence with critical injuries. The man was pronounced dead on scene.
Province issues statement after Woodridge bulk-fill water station closes
Our province has provided clarification on the closure of two water systems in the southeast corner of Manitoba. Those closures happened last year in Woodridge and this year in Piney.
Earlier this week, La Verendrye MLA Konrad Narth noted that local residents are outraged by the closures and that he is working on getting the moves reversed. Narth says the closure in Piney happened without public consultation. He claims it was shut down due to the lack of a chlorination system, even though it is clearly marked that the water is not intended for human consumption.

She was survived by her husband Douglas Doerksen, 2 daughters, 2 sons, 3 sisters, 1 brother and their families she was predeceased by her father B.F. Klassen and her sister Colleen Chavez.
The funeral service for Sandra Lynn Klassen Doerksen will be held Saturday, 11am at Braeside EMC Church, 1011 Munroe Ave, Winnipeg.

Manitoba government poll suggests concerns over health care, crime and immigration
The number of Manitobans concerned about crime and public safety has risen steadily, an opinion poll done for the Manitoba government suggests.
The Benchmark poll by Leger is commissioned by the province and conducted every few months to gauge public concerns. The latest available survey, done in October and obtained by The Canadian Press under Manitoba's freedom of information law, suggests affordability and health care remain the most popular concerns.
Judge to rule on bail for 3 charged in alleged plot to seize land near Quebec City
A judge is scheduled to rule today on whether to grant bail to three men facing terrorism charges in an alleged plot to forcibly seize land in the Quebec City area.
Quebec court Judge René de la Sablonnière heard evidence and arguments over three days.
Simon Angers-Audet, 24, Raphaël Lagacé, 25, and Marc-Aurèle Chabot, 24, face charges of facilitating a terrorist activity, and other charges related to the illegal storage of firearms and possession of explosives and prohibited devices.
Prime Minister Carney says Canada will recognize a Palestinian state
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Wednesday that Canada intends to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations in September, as long as the Palestinian Authority holds elections next year.
"Preserving a two-state solution means standing with all people who choose peace over violence or terrorism. And it means honouring their innate desire for peaceful coexistence," Carney told reporters on Parliament Hill.
He said Ottawa intends to officially recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September.
175 pounds of tabs donated to Delainey for a new wheelchair
The community is continuing to rally behind the Tabs for Wheelchairs program.
13-year-old Delainey Disna, who lives with Trisomy 13, is next in line to receive a brand-new wheelchair.
Derek Thiessen and Chantelle Horel have been collecting tabs for the program for years, and their efforts are once again helping a child in need.
