St. Adolphe students safely evacuated from Red Rock Bible Camp
Red Rock Bible Camp has evacuated as a wildfire threat continues to impact several areas in Manitoba, including the Whiteshell Provincial Park. Camp Director Carla Ackermann says the evacuation began after Manitoba Parks decided to close the park on Wednesday evening.
Charges likely in train crash near Deacons Corner
There were only minor injuries in a train crash Thursday evening, east of Winnipeg.
At approximately 7:45 pm, Oakbank RCMP were dispatched to a report of a train vs tractor collision, two miles east of Deacons Corner
According to police, a 64-year-old male from the Rural Municipality of Ritchot sustained minor injuries.
Fire and EMS were on scene and CN Police also attended.
CN Police are investigating. RCMP say charges will likely be laid against the tractor driver.
No further details are available.
Soggy start to long weekend with chance of frost in the forecast
It seems many people living in southeastern Manitoba are hoping for a wet May long weekend this year. Some would say that rainy weather on the Victoria Day long weekend is a typical forecast. But, with wildfires continuing to burn out of control in this part of the province, many are now hoping for soggy weather to squelch those fires.
*UPDATE* RM of Piney wildfire grows to 8904.7 hectares; rain brings hope
UPDATE: 1:25 p.m.
According to the Rural Municipality of Piney, Manitoba Wildfire Service has updated the size of the wildfire in the area to 8904.7 hectares.
This is an increase of more than 1,000 hectares from an update on Thursday, when the blaze covered 7886 hectares of land.

Evacuation order remains in place as Lac du Bonnet wildfire continues to burn
The Lac du Bonnet Emergency Coordinator has provided an update regarding the ongoing wildfire evacuation order. In a post on Facebook, the coordinator emphasized that the evacuation zone remains in place within the red lines on the shared map, and all travel into this zone is prohibited.
Jury dismissed in sexual assault trial of five ex-world junior hockey players
The sexual assault case of five hockey players faced another major upheaval Friday, abruptly converting from a jury to a judge alone in order to avoid a mistrial that would have rebooted the proceedings for a second time in less than a month.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Maria Carroccia ruled to discharge the jury Friday over concerns about possible jury bias. The move came after a juror sent a note to the Carroccia indicating some members of the panel felt two of the defence lawyers were laughing at them as they came into court each day.
Potential tornadoes in southern Manitoba as soaking rain continues
Environment Canada has received reports of tornadoes near Niverville, Sperling and Gretna on Thursday.
The weather service says that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to confirm that tornadoes occurred, however, meteorologists continue to investigate.
Environment Canada is actively seeking pictures of the suspected tornadoes and/or any damage they may have caused. Anyone with information on these potential tornadoes is asked to call 1-800-239-0484, email storm@ec.gc.ca, or post to #mbstorm.

Prosecutors seek prison for men guilty of human smuggling in Manitoba border deaths
U.S. attorneys have filed sentencing submissions for two men convicted after a family froze to death while trying to walk across the Canada-U.S. border in Manitoba.
A Minnesota jury found Steve Shand of Florida and Harshkumar Patel, an Indian national arrested in Chicago, guilty last year of human-smuggling charges.
The parents and two children from India were found in the snow metres from the U.S. border in January 2022.
In court documents filed Wednesday, the U.S. attorneys requested Patel be sentenced to a little more than 19 years in prison.
