Carney says he won't make a pact with NDP, confirms King Charles to launch Parliament

King Charles will visit Ottawa to deliver the speech from the throne at the end of this month in a show of support for Canadian sovereignty, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Friday.

The news came in his first press conference since leading the Liberals to a fourth straight mandate in Monday's election, where he laid out the priorities for his first few months, promising to "embark on the biggest transformation of our economy since the end of the Second World War." 

Three quarters of Canadians say misinformation affected the federal election: poll

More than three quarters of Canadians believe misinformation had an impact on the outcome of the federal election, a new poll suggests.

The Leger poll, which sampled more than 1,500 Canadian adults from April 29 to May 1, suggests that 19 per cent of people think false information or misinformation had a major impact on the election.

Almost a third (32 per cent) said it had a moderate impact, while 26 per cent said it had a minor impact on the election's outcome.

Only nine per cent of Canadians said misinformation had no impact on the election at all.

Local gymnasts excel at 2025 Manitoba TG Provincial Championships

A handful of local gymnasts are headed to a compete against other Western Canada athletes in coming weeks.

Among them, is Edison Camargo, Monique Wiebe, Jaxon McLean.

The three all train with Tamarack Gymnastics in Mitchell, and set the bar high in the 2025 Manitoba TG Provincial Championships.

"I ended up making Team Manitoba," says 15-year-old Camargo. "I get to go against all of western Canada."

A popular youth sport is returning to Steinbach this spring with a new name and a continued focus on building both athletic and life skills. 

Kids rugby will kick off its 2025 season on Tuesday, May 6, now operating under the name TAIKA Kids Rugby. The name “Taika” means “tiger” in several Polynesian languages, a nod to the Island Breeze organization that runs the program.

Hosted by Southeast Manitoba Homeschool Connections, the third annual Night at the Museum gave homeschoolers a chance to share topics they’ve poured time and curiosity into—whether it’s dinosaurs, dog training, spinning wool, or dirt biking.

On stage, they are Jane and Kyle, and the Canadian fiddle champions are known for creating a unique sound characterized by lush twin fiddle harmonies, intricate arrangements, and heartfelt compositions.

Jane grew up in Winnipeg, while Cory is from the Ottawa area. The two met while attending the University of Ottawa's School of Music for Classical Violin, and that's how the partnership began.
