Taxes going up in Ritchot
Ratepayers in the Rural Municipality of Ritchot can expect to see a higher tax bill in 2025.
Mayor Chris Ewen says Council has approved its 2025 financial plan. The total municipal tax levy is $19.75 million. Of that, the RM portion is $7.67 million, while the education portion is $12.08 million.
Manitoba Progressive Conservatives choose Obby Khan as new party leader
Manitoba's Progressive Conservatives have elected Obby Khan as their new leader.
Khan, a former cabinet minister and pro football player, was chosen by party members over Wally Daudrich, a hotel owner and longtime party board member, in a tight race.
Daudrich garnered 53 more votes than Khan, according to results posted to the party's website.
But under the party's system that uses points for each constituency, Khan won with 50.4 per cent overall to Daudrich's 49.6 per cent.

A memorial service for Aganetha (Nettie) Kroeker nee Unrau will be held Monday, April 28th at 11am at Glencross Mennonite Church with burial at the church cemetery.
Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral home, Winkler Sunday, April 27th from 1 to 6pm.

Provencher sees higher advance voter turnout than in '21 election
More than 16,000 voters in Provencher cast their ballots early ahead of the federal election.
Elections Canada reports that 16,478 voters took advantage of advance polls in the riding, part of a record-setting 7.3 million Canadians who voted early between April 18th and 21st.
The 16,478 votes are up 14.7 per cent from the last general election in 2021 when there were 14,365 advance votes cast. However, since then, electoral boundaries have changed.
