Eastbound traffic on Highway 52 rerouted

A collision in La Broquerie resulted in minor injuries, and detoured traffic.

Tuesday morning, eastbound traffic on Highway 52 was rerouted down East Gate Drive due to the crash, which has been confirmed by the La Broquerie Fire Department.

Crews say the collision was likely caused by poor visibility due to rain.

It happened between Road 37 East and the Frantz Inn.

A tow truck was on scene just before 10:30 a.m.

No further details are available.

Mary Loewen nee Thiessen, 94, of Neepawa formerly of Blumenort, passed away Sunday, July 20th at Country Meadows Personal Care Home, Neepawa. She is survived by many in the Loewen and Thiessen families. She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius.  
The funeral service for Mary Loewen nee Thiessen will be held Thursday, July 24th at 2pm at First Baptist Church, Neepawa with burial at Rosedale Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at the church Wednesday, July 23rd from 7 to 8:30pm. 

Senft to step down as CEO of Seeds Canada

The founding CEO of the five-year-old organization will stay on until January 2026

Seeds Canada is looking for a new chief executive officer after Barry Senft announced he is stepping down from the role he’s held for about four years.

Senft will continue to serve as CEO until the end of January 2026.

“I think after five years, it’s time for new leadership,” he said during the 2025 Seeds Canada conference in Quebec City.

He said someone with more seeds experience would make sense now that the organization is up and running.

The Manoir St. Pierre / St Pierre Manor project has been in the works for the past five years. The board's desire is for more local, supportive living options for seniors who want to stay in the community they love. 

U13 AAA Eastman Wildcats show well at provincials, looking for big things at Western's

Hosting the U13 AAA provincials this past weekend, the Eastman Wildcats played exceptional ball, leading to finishing second, and punching their ticket to the Western's coming up in Abbotsford, British Columbia in August.

"It was a really good week of ball," coach Jason Plett explains. "We started on Thursday with our round robin play, and the whole tournament, our girls played the best ball they've played all season long. It was a lot of fun to watch."

Conservative MPs publicly support Freedom Convoy organizers ahead of sentencing

Several Conservative MPs are criticizing the Crown's approach to prosecuting two key organizers of the Freedom Convoy protests, with the party's deputy leader calling it an act of "political vengeance."

Tamara Lich and Chris Barber were convicted of mischief in April for their roles in organizing the demonstration, which blockaded streets around Parliament Hill for more than three weeks in early 2022.

Barber was also convicted of counselling others to disobey a court order.

Tornado warning for parts of Southern Manitoba as storm threat escalates

Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for parts of Southern Manitoba.

At 6:58 p.m. CDT, meteorologists began tracking a severe thunderstorm possibly producing a tornado in the R.M. of Macdonald, including Brunkild, Starbuck and La Salle, and the R.M. of Morris, including Rosenort and Aubigny.

"This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation," the agency warned.
