Debt clock stops in Steinbach to highlight Manitoba’s rising debt
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) brought its touring debt clock to Steinbach on Tuesday, aiming to raise awareness about Manitoba’s growing provincial debt.
According to the CTF, the province’s debt has surpassed $35 billion and continues to increase.
"It's going up about $4,000 a minute, or $5.5 million a day," says Gage Haubrich, prairie director for the federation.

Around 810 Manitoba Hydro customers are out of power in Kleefeld.
Manitoba Hydro's outage map shows the power went out around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday due to tree contact. It is estimated to come back on around 4:30 p.m. the same day.

Rain floods Steinbach streets Tuesday morning
It was a soggy morning in Southern Manitoba and Environment Canada says more rain is on the way.
Meteorologist Crawford Luke says Tuesday's rain event follows what was an active night for severe weather. On Monday evening, Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for parts of Southern Manitoba, including the Rural Municipality (RM) of Macdonald and the RM of Morris.
"We're not aware of any tornado touchdowns at this point in time," says Luke. "We do have one report of a funnel cloud which was actually spotted by the weather observer at the Winnipeg Airport."

It is full steam ahead at Genesis Fertilizers despite a tumultuous June, say proponents of the proposed Saskatchewan mega-project.
“It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when we get this project off the ground,” said Terry Drabiuk, vice-president of business development with Genesis.
The project is a proposed $2.89 billion, farmer-owned nitrogen fertilizer plant to be built in Belle Plaine, Sask.

The "Cruel Summer Tour" rolls into Grunthal this Saturday, promising an action-packed night for some of the company's most hardcore fans.
"Southeast Manitoba fans have become the most passionate in the country," says Danny Warren—better known by his ring name, "Hotshot" Danny Duggan. "It's wild. They come dressed up, they come with signs, they're coming with their Canadian flags, and they're rowdy... We're having a pretty good time."
Float plane flips, pilot not injured
Lac du Bonnet RCMP say a pilot was not hurt after his float plane flipped over in the Winnipeg River.
On Monday at 2:31 pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report that a float plane was discovered upside down in the water after landing on the Winnipeg River.
Once on scene, officers were told that the pilot had safely landed the plane, but the right float went under water while taxiing to shore.
The pilot and sole occupant, a 27-year-old male from Snow Lake, was able to escape the plane just before it tipped upside down in the water. Police say he was not injured.
Soggy Tuesday
Thunderstorms rolled through the region Tuesday morning. The rain started in Steinbach shortly before 8 am and by 10 am nearly 30 millimetres had fallen, flooding some streets. More rain is in the forecast for later in the day.
