A classic summer tradition with a big heart is returning to Steinbach—Brooke and Koda's Iced Tea Stand is back, raising funds for families navigating childhood cancer.

Set for July 23 and 24 at 418 Walnut Street in Steinbach, the stand will feature all kinds of tasty treats. That includes iced tea, lemonade, water, soda, cookies, brownies, chips, Rocco’s Pizza, and more.

Brooke and Koda merch will also be for sale.

It's going to be a big day at Quarry Oaks as the final round of the Junior Boys and Girls Championships are underway.

Golf lovers are encouraged to head down any time today to check out the third and final day of action. 

Players from across the province are already out on the course with the leaders set to tee off coming up in the early afternoon.

Ruth Duester, 86, of Winnipeg formerly of Poland, passed away Saturday, July 5th at Riverview Health Centre. She is survived by her husband Erwin, 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 1 sister, 2 sisters-in-law and their families. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, 1 brother and 1 brother-in-law. 
The funeral service for Ruth Duester will be held Friday, July 11th at 11am at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, with burial at Glen Eden Cemetery in West St. Paul.

Helena Epp, 81, of Winnipeg passed away Sunday, July 6th at Calvary Place. She is survived by her husband John, 3 children, and 8 grandchildren.  
The funeral service for Helena Epp will be held Saturday, July 12th at 2pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with reception to follow. Private interment will be held.

Two student pilots died Tuesday morning after their single-engine planes collided mid-air during practice exercises, the head of a pilot training school said.

The students, who were not identified, were practising takeoffs and landings when they appear to have tried to land at the same time on the small rural runway south of Steinbach, said Adam Penner, president of Harv's Air. 

The collision left the planes wrecked in a field on private property, roughly 400 metres from the runway.

Construction is now officially underway on the renovations to a church building more than a century old, in La Broquerie. 

The heritage building along Principale Street, belonging to the St. Joachim Parish Church, was constructed in 1901. It was announced last October that significant repairs are needed to the structure. As a result, a fundraising campaign was launched. 

It wasn't an ideal start, but the U13 Wildcats never quite, battling right to the end, claiming victory in the silver bracket of the Peppers Classic in Mankato, Minnesota.

"It's super fun," coach Jason Plett says when looking back over the year to this point. "They're definitely getting closer as a team every game and every practice. There have been highs and lows during games, being it's the U13 age, but it's awesome to see how they pick each other up, work through those tough times and getting better."

Brian Esau, councillor for the area in the Rural Municipality of Hanover, says the two-day event, running July 12-13, will be overflowing with excitement.

Ottawa is expected to miss its 2026 deadline to implement $10-a-day child care services across the country, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives said in a new report published on Wednesday.

The analysis concluded that just six provinces and territories are meeting that fee target now.

David Macdonald, an economist with the centre, said even though fees have dropped significantly everywhere, the federal government is unlikely to meet its self-imposed deadline.

Two active members of the Canadian Armed Forces are among four people arrested and charged on Tuesday for allegedly participating in an anti-government plot to forcibly take possession of land in the Quebec City area.

Three of the suspects, motivated by "violent extremism," planned to start a militia and "took concrete actions" to facilitate terrorist activity, the RCMP said. Two 24-year-olds and a 25-year-old allegedly took part in military-style training that included shooting, ambush, survival and navigation exercises, using a variety of firearms and high-capacity magazines.
