Fresh off National Canada Day Show performance, Morgan Grace joins Made in Manitoba

Welcome to another Made in Manitoba. We're excited to have East Selkirk's Morgan Grace joining us just days after her appearance at the Canada Day National Evening Show in Ottawa. This is just the latest national event the 18-year-old left-handed fiddle player has been part of. She also played for King Charles III during Parliament's opening and Throne Speech at the end of May.

'Lit that fire again': Toews grateful, excited to play after signing with Winnipeg

Jonathan Toews is officially back.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion, who last played an NHL game more than two years ago, was introduced Friday as the newest member of his hometown Winnipeg Jets, donning a jersey with his signature No. 19 at a team press conference.

The Jets announced their intention to acquire the 37-year-old centre last month, but it only became official this week with Toews signing a one-year deal worth US$2 million, plus performance bonuses tied to games played and playoff success.

Prairie Crop Update : June rains bring some much-needed rain to many areas

June brought its share of thunderstorm activity to the Prairies.

The Canadian Crop Hail Association says mid-June thunderstorms damaged crops across Western Canada, dropping pea- to toonie-sized hail.
 
CCHA member companies are investigating more than 900 claims of crop damage from hailstorms that occurred June 13-20. The majority of the claims were filed in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Farmers have been out evaluating crop damage to determine the impact, as some crops can recover depending on the damage and the stage of the crop.

'Inspiring force': Royal Canoe bassist remembered after crash in Manitoba kills 3

Staples in Mantioba's music scene and beyond offered condolences and tributes Thursday after learning the bassist in a beloved band died in a highway crash with two others.

Indie pop band Royal Canoe, on social media, said Brendan Berg died in the crash Tuesday, a day before his 43rd birthday, along with his partner, Olivia Michalczuk.

Berg's death has left an "enormous and sudden hole in the lives of everyone who knew him," the post said.

He is survived by his loving wife Pat, bonus children Trish (Doug) with grandchildren Levi and Jayne (Nick); Sandra (Peter) with grandson Nathan; Junior (Linda) with grandchildren Hanna and Marcus; and daughters Angela and Terri. He also leaves his siblings John, Sarah (Penner), Mary (Dyck) and their families.

The funeral service for Agatha Harms will be held Monday, July 7th at 2pm at Chortitz Old Colony Church with burial at the church cemetery. 
Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler Sunday, July 6th from 1 to 7pm and at the church prior to the service.
