Sports Round-Up: Wednesday, September 11

Four members of the Moose Jaw Warriors will be heading to NHL training camps this week, including Brayden Yager with the Winnipeg Jets, Kalem Parker with the Minnesota Wild, Vojtech Port with the Anaheim Ducks, and Rilen Kovacevic with the Colorado Avalanche. 

The rest of the team continues to prepare for their preseason matchup against the Broncos, Friday in Swift Current. The Warriors will host the Broncos Saturday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Take 5 - Municipal election

Rob Carnie: Preparations for the municipal election are coming up sooner than later. How's that going at City Hall? 

Maryse Carmichael: Well, this is going to be my first election as the city manager, so it's an exciting time.  

The municipal election will be on November 13th. We are just about to open for candidates that would like to be councilors or mayor.

Rob Carnie: Let's talk about the new Community Services Department. City manager, tell us why it was created and what the goals are with the new endeavor. 

Maryse Carmichael: Since I arrived in the city, just over a year ago now, I've made a few changes with the organization. 

I took the time to do that to make sure that I would make some changes, after reflection and after seeing how they operated. 

Take 5 - September roadwork update

Rob Carnie: Let's switch it up. The Thatcher Drive East paving project! They're really getting it done. 

Maryse Carmichael: They are getting it done, and I have to tell you, on Sunday I was driving on Thatcher, and I took a picture and sent it to the Director of Operations.  

I'm like “Wow, I am impressed.”, 35° and the crews were out there on a Sunday afternoon paving.  

Take 5 - No reentry at the Moose Jaw Events Centre

Rob Carnie: Let's talk about this. This is something new. It's a no reentry policy at the Moose Jaw Events Centre for Moose Jaw Warriors games. Tell us how this came about. 

Maryse Carmichael: Yes, the season is starting really, really soon. I was just at the Event Centre yesterday for a hockey practice. So, we're back in the in the new season, there's a few changes at the Event Center.

Sports Round-Up: Tuesday, September 10

The Moose Jaw Warriors roster is down to 26 players after several reassignments, including 2024 top pick Cohen Williams.

The team next plays on Friday night in Swift Current against the Broncos. 

Saskatoon's Rylan Wiens is Sask Sport’s Athlete of the Month for August. Wiens brought home a bronze medal from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games for men’s 10-meter synchronized diving, along with partner Nathan Zsombor-Murray. 

Register now for the Moose Jaw Minor Volleyball League

Registration for the Moose Jaw Minor Volleyball League powered by Golden Ticket Sports is now open. You can register on their website.  

This year is the first year for this league which is open to athletes from all school divisions.  It will give athletes the ability to play volleyball in a Moose Jaw-based league this Fall. 

Teams will practice on either Tuesday or Thursday nights led by GTVC Master Coaches with the help of parent/family members as per team coaches. 

Sports Round-Up: Monday, September 9

The defending WHL champion Moose Jaw Warriors have started the pre-season with two losses.
The Regina Pats took both exhibition games on the weekend by scores of 7-4 and 4-2.

The Warriors will play a pair of preseason games against the Broncos this weekend, heading to Swift Current on Friday, before hitting the ice at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Saturday night.
