A tentative agreement has been reached between the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee and the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation Bargaining Committee.

The agreement was reached today following a recent round of negotiations. The recent negotiations came after the teachers rejected the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee’s offer that was brought to the STF membership earlier this month. 

A 47-year-old Assiniboia man who was arrested in November of 2023 for sexual offences against children will be facing additional charges. 

When Richard Dyke was arrested, he was charged with offences against three boys under the age of 12. He was arrested after a search warrant was executed at a registered home-based daycare in Assiniboia. 

A man from Assiniboia accused of sexual assault on minors could be facing additional charges. 

The 46-year-old man appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Wednesday via telephone, while his defence lawyer Estes Fonkalsrud appeared in person. The man’s name is under a publication ban that could potentially identify witnesses or victims.

The opening of the Riverhurst Ferry will be delayed into June this year as it undergoes repairs. 

According to the Ministry of Highways, the ferry underwent a Transport Canada inspection last fall and repairs were ordered to ensure it operates safely. 

The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation announced on Friday afternoon that teachers province-wide will be going on work-to-rule sanctions starting on Monday. 

Work-to-rule means that teachers will restrict their hours to 15 minutes before school starts and 15 minutes after school while withdrawing all voluntary services including noon-hour supervision and extracurriculars such as sports. 

Assiniboia’s Southland Co-op Centre was recognized as the Top Urban Municipal Initiative earlier this month at the Saskatchewan Municipal Awards. 

The Southland Co-op Centre opened its doors in September of 2022 after 10 years of fundraising by the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association to replace the old rink. 

A former Assiniboia daycare worker who is accused of sexually assaulting three boys under the age of 12 was back in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Tuesday. 

The man, who cannot be named under a publication ban that could identify victims or witnesses, appeared via telephone and was represented by Legal Aid lawyer Suzanne Lalonde. 

An 18-year-old woman who was struck by a vehicle on Highway 1 near the Manitoba Expressway in Moose Jaw on Thursday has succumbed to her injuries.

The woman was pronounced dead on Monday morning in a Regina hospital.

According to the Moose Jaw Police Service, the woman was working in the area when she was struck by her co-worker in a work vehicle at a low rate of speed and then trapped under the vehicle. 

She was taken to the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw before being transferred to Regina.
