This week's REMR Roofing Person of the Week is Trina Henley!

Trina was nominated by Rikki Watson, who wrote in part:

It's been a few years since Minaki's Sage McBride has performed in Kenora with her band Shred Kelly, but fans of the alternative folk-rock band don't have to wait much longer. 

The band is on tour and is making a special stop under the Whitecap Pavilion on Thursday, June 30 for a fundraising concert in support of local Keewatin-Patricia District School Board schools. 

SLMHC announces the appointment of their new President and CEO.  

Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) announced on June 16, that their current President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Heather Lee, is retiring from her position.  

“We appreciate and are grateful for Heather’s leadership,” says Board Chair Sadie Maxwell.  

As Canada moves further and further away from the COVID-19 pandemic, more mandates to protect residents from the virus are ending, specifically for international travellers and workers in federally regulated industries.

Kenora Swimming Shark Emilia Mastromatteo is saying farewell to her team as she competed in her last race before heading to McGill University in the fall. The Sharks recently took part in the Manta Festival Swim Meet in Winnipeg where Mastromatteo earned five gold and 2 silver. Also impressing in the pool was Eli Dawe who took bronze and two fourth-place finishes. Emily Dawe also found herself in fourth in one of her races.  Sophie English was the single para-athlete at the meet and found her way to success.

The 43rd edition of the Manitoba Marathon was cancelled at 8:10 a.m. Sunday because of the excessive heat and humidity as the temperature reached over 30 C just over an hour after the annual Father’s Day race began at University of Manitoba campus in Winnipeg.

As the mercury is set to soar into the mid-30s, Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for the region.

The weather agency says maximum temperatures on Sunday are expected to reach between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius.

The Kenora Supports Ukraine Coalition says they’ve nearly hit their $75,000 fundraising goal in just over two months of fundraising, and are helping to bring a number of Ukrainian refugees to Kenora.

Co-Chairs Peter Kirby and Nathan Moncrief of Kenora created the coalition in early April to assist Ukrainian families seeking to flee Russia’s invasion of their home country, which has since grown to 11 community volunteers who meet weekly to help out.

Two Kenora residents are safe after a search of a capsized canoe in the Norman Dam area.

Residents in the downtown core will be treated to a morning of bells this Sunday.  

St. Alban’s Church Carillons Bells Committee announced that they will be having a celebration with their new electronic church bells this Sunday, June 19.  

The dedication will begin at 11:00 am following the usual Sunday morning service.
