Free fishing Father's Day weekend
Father's Day weekend is here, which means another couple of days of free family fishing.
Free fishing will be Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19. The province of Ontario offers free fishing four times a year, which means anglers do not require a fishing licence.

Dryden High School held their athletics banquet last night for the Eagles.
Reider Paquette and Jordyn Robichaud took home the Rookies of the Year award. Barett Edenburn won the Sportsman award while Meagan Peters took home the Sportswoman award.
Positive ticketing is back!
The Kenora detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police positive ticketing campaign is back for the summer of 2022.
Children and youth spotted doing the right thing; wearing their bicycle helmets, life jackets and doing good in the community will be "ticketed" with passes that can be exchanged for prizes from local sponsors.
Prizes awarded are from Sweet - Lake of the Woods, Sunset Baits, Skup Ice Cream, Lake of the Woods Sports Headquarters and the Coney Island Snack Shack.
T.A and BBSS students honour Indigenous Peoples Day through art
In honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day, students at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Beaver Brae have teamed up along with many of the businesses in Kenora’s downtown to create an exhibit of artwork.
Different types of artwork will be showcased from paintings to ribbons skirts and beaded work, which will be on display from Saturday, June 18 until Friday, June 24 at a variety of local businesses along Main St. and Second St. S.
KPDSB announces exit of Director of Education following 2021-22 school year
Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has announced another change in senior leadership.
In a recent press release, the Lakehead District School Board (LDSB) and the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) announced that Sheri-Lynne Pharand, current Director of Education for the KPDSB, has accepted the position of incoming Director of Education with the LDSB.
30-year-old charged for attempted murder
A 30-year-old man from Fort Frances is facing attempted murder charges after an assault on Tuesday.
The OPP say on June 14 shortly after 7 a.m., officers responded to an incident outside of a location on Fifth Street East, where an individual was found with life-threatening injuries and was transported for medical treatment.
As a result of the OPP’s investigation, 30-year-old Joshua Pardy of Fort Frances is facing charges of:

Lake of the Woods may have 'peaked'
Good news for those closely watching the level of Lake of the Woods.
For the first time this year, the Lake of the Woods Control Board suggests that the level of Lake of the Woods is expected to remain stable over the next seven days, indicating that the lake may be near a peak.
The Control Board says the lake will see a decrease of less than 1 cm (0.5 in) or an increase of up to 2 cm (1 in), depending on the rainfall received across the region. Noting that a return of wet weather could result in a second, higher peak.
Another day, another new record gas price
The price at the pumps is up again.
Gas prices in Kenora jumped eight cents Thursday afternoon to an average price of 223.9/per litre of regular gasoline.
Since October 2021 gas prices have spiked 45 per cent and experts suggest gas prices will continue to rise due to inflation, supply chain issues and Russia's war on Ukraine.
The Ontario average for a litre of regular is 206.6/per litre.
Three youth charged for 2018 murder of Dryden man
The OPP say the two killers of Henry Stone-Arnold and an accomplice are all in custody, but they cannot be named as they were under the age of 18 when they allegedly murdered the man.
Two individuals are facing charges of:

- Committing Indignity to a Body,
A third individual is facing charges of:
- Obstructing Justice,
- Uttering Threats,
- Accessory After the Fact (murder),
Migisi Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre celebrates grand re-opening
Wauzhushk Onigum Nation celebrated the grand re-opening of their treatment facility yesterday.
The Migisi Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre (Migisi) celebrated the grand re-opening of its newly renovated and expanded facilities on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.
The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, speeches from staff and former clients, a drum circle, and a BBQ luncheon.
