Kenora hosting spring pickleball tournament
The Garrow park pickleball courts will be the scene of the Kenora Pickleball Club Spring Tournament this weekend.
Saturday action gets underway at 9:00am with Men's 3.0, 3.5 and 3.75. Women’s play including 3.0, 3.5 and 3.75 starts at 1:00pm.
Sunday, mixed teams including 3.0, 3.5, 3.75 and 4.0 will take to the courts with action starting at 9:00am.
In the event of rain, the tournament will be moved from Garrow Park to the Kenora Recreation Centre.
LOWDSA encourages boaters to remove debris from the water
As the boating season begins to pick up, LOWDSA is reminding you to be cautious of debris in the surrounding lakes.
The recent flooding has caused large amounts of debris to enter from the shores, everything from trees to lawn furniture. Boaters are asked to remove any debris from the water when they find it.
Kenora’s evacuation zone reduced, three roads remain closed
Crews with the City of Kenora plan to open up a number of roadways in the evacuated area to let residents back in their homes today.
One lane of HWY 17 reopens following a fatal collision
One lane of Highway 17 between the Shabaqua Corners and Upsala has been reopened following a fatal collision earlier this morning.
The Ministry of Transportation says, "traffic control is in place and delays can be expected in the area."
At the time of publishing, there is no word on when the highway will fully reopen.
Dock gas unavailable at Bare Point Marina
The dock gas pumps at Bare Point Marina are closed due to high water on Lake of the Woods.
The marina says boaters looking for gas, can bring their jerrycans to the gas station on land.
It's expected that the dock gas pumps will be closed until lake levels start to recede.
On Wednesday, the Lake of the Woods Control Board said the level of Lake of the Woods had exceeded the 2014 peak and noted that the lake could soon reach the all-time high water level.

Red Lake Miners season comes to an end
The season for the Red Lake Miners came to an end on Tuesday night (May 24, 2022), after losing their final round-robin game at the 2022 Centennial Cup in Estevan, SK.
It was a tough tournament for the Miners as they went 0-4, and were outscored 32-9, in Group A. Leading the way for the Miners was forward Brady Harroun with five points in four games (3G-2A).

The level of Black Sturgeon Lake is slowly dropping.
Several residents along the lake have been keeping track of the water levels.
Mark Mulski, who has been providing water level updates on the East Melick Area Flood 2022 Facebook page, says Black Sturgeon Lake, near Beauty Bay, is down 13'' from the high watermark.
The level of Black Sturgeon, near James Road, is down 2.5'' this week, according to a post on the Black Sturgeon Lake Property Owners Association Facebook page.

Collision closes Hwy 17 east of Upsala
Motorists traveling east can expect some delays this morning after a collision on Highway 17.
The crash was reported around 8:45am, which had closed the Highway between Upsala and Shabaqua Corners.
Traffic control is in place and there are no injuries reported at this time.
The time of reopening is unknown.
Rain, rain and more rain in weekend forecast
Rain, rain and more rain. That is what Environment Canada is forecasting this weekend, into early next week.
Meteorologist Peter Kimbell, says a storm system is moving its way north from the Dakota’s into northwestern Ontario, with the majority of the rain coming on Sunday.
“Sunday and Monday is when we do expect rain. Particularly Sunday and Sunday night. I can’t really tell you when the rain will start, because there is some model variability with that front. We could be getting 15 to 20 mm of rain Sunday and Sunday night. Likely letting up on Monday.”
