UPDATE: 25-year-old missing in NWO area

10:40pm Update: Mosher has been located.

Officers with the Treaty Three Police Service are asking for the public’s help in locating missing 25-year-old Tiana Mosher.

Mosher is described as 5’3” Indigenous female with a small build, with medium-length dark hair. She is known to spend time in the Fort Frances, Kenora, Dryden and Thunder Bay areas.

She was last seen on August 2, 2022. Police are concerned for her safety and ask that anyone with any information regarding her whereabouts to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.

Ontario Mayor, local resort owner identified in NWO boating death

A 64-year-old man who passed away in a nearby boating accident has been identified as a local resort owner and the Mayor of a small town in southern Ontario.

The Sioux Lookout OPP say John C. Grace was found deceased roughly seven hours after his barge, which had been transporting fuel, capsized on Lake St. Joseph near his family’s fishing resort, the Old Post Lodge. Grace was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

In Kenora Slo Pitch Action, the Devil’s Gap Chiefs had a big night against the Royals, winning 17 to 12.

Canada's men's world junior hockey team will look to build on its current momentum when they take on Slovakia tonight in Edmonton. Canada defeated Latvia 5-2 last night. Connor Bedard was one of three players to record a goal and assist on a night where five different Canadians put pucks into the net.

Join the Kenora Dinner Jackets improv group!

The Kenora Dinner Jackets improv group is hosting a 10-week adult improv skills workshop this fall, for all levels of ability.

The workshops run Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm beginning September 7, 2022, on the TryLight Theatre stage for those 18+.

During the workshop, you can review and practice key improv skills, which will lead to two performances in front of a live audience on November 11 and 12 at 7:30pm.

Cost is $150 per person.

Investigator says missing Canadian woman found in Ohio after 42 years

On July 16, 1980, Dale Nancy Wyman left her Ottawa-area home with a suitcase full of her belongings, took a taxi to a Greyhound bus station and vanished. She didn't say where she was going and her family had no idea where to look. 

More than four decades later, a woman from Ohio contacted Wyman's siblings, who had never stopped looking for her. She had seen a video of Wyman's younger sister, Brenda Larche, asking for information to help the family find peace and closure, and realized the woman Larche was looking for was her mother. 

Bob Bernie running for a seat on Kenora city council

The councillor race in Kenora is heating up.

Retired OPP Officer Bob Bernie is the latest to join the race to form Kenora's next City Council.

At the time of publishing, 11 residents are vying for six seats on council and it looks like a number of fresh faces will form City Council in the fall.

Of the 11 in the running only one, Graham Chaze, is currently on council. Chaze was appointed to council on July 13, 2022 to fill the seat vacated by outgoing Councillor Kirsi Ralko. Chaze was the runner-up in the last municipal election.

New Coney Island Footbridge to be installed

The replacement of the Coney Island footbridge is in the early stages after undergoing extensive damage in May.

The footbridge released from its anchor point on May 9 as a result of high water, excessive winds, and waves causing extreme flexing under force. The bridge detached and floated down Cameron Narrows.

On August 9, 2022, City Council approved a budget amendment in the amount of up to $225,000 (plus HST) to replace the damaged structure and funded through the contingency reserve for emergency costs .

OPP, Ministry of Labour and Environment investigating death at Lake Saint Joseph

OPP is investigating a death on Lake Saint Joseph, south of Pickel Lake.

OPP says at approximately 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, OPP officers were called to a boat in distress on Lake Saint Joseph, 35 kilometres south of the Township of Pickle Lake.

OPP found a barge, transporting fuel, had capsized and the lone occupant of the vessel has been confirmed deceased.

The single occupant was identified as Jonathan Grace, 64 years old, of Goderich Ontario.

Children at centre of Saskatchewan Amber Alert found safe

Two children at the centre of a Saskatchewan Amber Alert were found at a campground in the United States along with their mother and a man wanted by police, Mounties said Wednesday.

Benjamin Martin Moore, 50, was apprehended near Sturgis, S.D. He is behind bars in Pennington County and jail records show he is being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service.

His common-law spouse is also in police custody.

A seven-year-old girl and eight-year-old boy were located with Moore and RCMP said they are safe.
