Save the date! Altona's Blue Sky Opportunities is looking forward to hosting you November 9th at the Rhineland Pioneer Centre for its annual fundraising dinner. The evening will also serve as the campaign kick-off for Blue Sky's latest fundraising project. 

Blue Sky Opportunities Inc. is a non-profit organization committed to the integration and independence of adults with intellectual disabilities by maximizing employment and residential opportunities in our community.

“People are loving it. They love the thin crust. They love our gluten-free crust. They love the fresh toppings. They love LOTS of cheese on the pizza… which we have. So far, it’s been a great journey, and people are loving it!” says Jas Thind about the newly opened local restaurant, Cochrane Pizza & Grill.

"Here, everything is made in-house. The dough, the sauce and the marinades. Short of a backroom garden or an on-site butcher shop, it’s all made right here."

Though representing different realty offices, three local realtors are united in their deep knowledge of, and support for, Portage and Central Plains.

We are all in need of saving! I have had the opportunity to be a volunteer firefighter for about six years now. As a firefighter, I often see people when they are having the worst day of their life!

They got in a car accident, or their house and all their possessions were burned down because somebody was forgetful. These are the moments when people are lost and in tears, when they are hurting and looking for somebody to save them!

As the board and staff work toward a gradual opening of the new facility, Small Town Kids Daycare in Rosenort is hiring for a variety of roles.

"Well, it's a pretty big building," explained daycare director Terry Ginter, noting the facility is located in the new Prairie Hearth development. "There are six play rooms. We have two infant rooms, three preschool rooms and a room they call a transition room for older infants and younger toddlers. We have a full kitchen, laundry room, staff room. It's pretty nice."

Starting October 19, leaders from across Canada will have the opportunity to engage with topical instruction, executive coaching, and networking through a new offering from Homefield People & Strategy.

With Thanksgiving approaching, and cooler weather and Christmas holidays following not long after, Sobeys of Steinbach is focussing on what it can do to serve disadvantaged people in southeast Manitoba.

“It’s a great event to help out the community,” says Franchise Owner Lee Kotowicz, referencing the grocery store’s annual Fall Food Drive, this October 5th and 6th. “It’s for a great cause, especially as it comes around Thanksgiving and as we get into fall and winter.”

Giana Denora has been playing soccer for a decade and half. Considering that she’s just begun her Grade 12 year at Dakota Collegiate in Winnipeg, that’s nearly 90% of her life.

“I just fell in love with it,” she says. “I tried basketball, volleyball and track, and I still love track, but soccer stuck with me.”
