7 arrested, 65 charges laid in child exploitation and human trafficking investigation: RCMP
Six people from Portage la Prairie and one person from Long Plain First Nation are facing dozens of charges in relation to child exploitation and human trafficking.
Manitoba RCMP held a press conference on Tuesday, July 9, announcing the arrests. Insp. Shawn Pike says that an investigation took place between Feb. 2, 2024, and June 4, 2024, throughout which Mounties executed 10 warrants and arrested seven people.
Teen missing since May safely located: WPS
The Winnipeg Police Service says a girl who had been missing for two months has been found.
The 17-year-old girl was last seen in the Seven Oaks area on May 5, 2024. She had not been seen or heard from since then.
Police were concerned for her well-being and sent out a release requesting help in finding her in June.
On Monday, July 8, the WPS sent out another release saying she had been safely located.
Community grieving after passing of Christian artist and speaker Tirrell Thomas
Family and friends are mourning the sudden passing of a young rapper who was passionate about his faith and encouraging young people.
According to family friends, Tirrell Thomas went to the hospital in Altona on Monday, July 1th, and died in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 2nd. Thomas, who had been having underlying health issues the last few years, would have turned 31 on Thursday, July 4th.
He had just performed last week at Altona's Ecole West Park School. Thomas was originally from Roseau River First Nation, and lived in Altona for many years.

Freezing Rain Warning ended for Steinbach area
More freezing rain is impacting the province Sunday morning.
Environment Canada says a warm front will bring a "brief" period of freezing rain as it moves into the region.
The warning was issued at 8:30am and ended at 9:40am.
Steinbach could reach 8 degrees today with freezing rain and snow.
