An Alberta Clipper is bringing some extra gifts to parts of western Manitoba on Christmas Day.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for parts of the province's southwest.
Meteorologists say that snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm is expected, accompanied by localized blowing snow.
Forecasters expect that the snow will taper off late in the day.
Environment Canada warns that people should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop.
Parts of the far northwest are also under extreme cold warnings.
Environment Canada says that wind chills will reach near -50 today.
Frostbite can occur in just minutes on exposed skin, especially combined with the wind chill.
The national forecaster encourages people to check on others to ensure their safety.
Steinbach is expecting periods of light snow with a daytime high of -20. Wind chills will be around -30 for the afternoon and then an overnight wind chill of -36.
Temperatures are expected to moderate this week, with a high of -18 tomorrow, and could warm to as high as -4 by Tuesday.
