Saskatchewan has been ranked as the top province in Canada for GDP growth
Statistics Canada is reporting the total dollar value of Saskatchewan's 2022 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was $76.7 billion, a six percent increase from 2021.
GDP measures the value of goods and services produced within a prescribed geographic region over a specified period of time.
Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison says Saskatchewan's economy is growing.
Canada launches new Agricultural Methane Reduction Challenge
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Francis Drouin announced the launch of the new Agricultural Methane Reduction Challenge on Tuesday.
Through this initiative, up to $12 million will be awarded to innovators advancing low-cost and scalable practices, processes, and technologies designed to reduce methane emissions produced by cattle.
Drouin noted that Canadian beef now has the lowest carbon footprint in the world.
Funding announced for new Canola Research Cluster
Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay was in Glenlea, Manitoba on Tuesday to announce over $9 million in funding to develop a new Canola Research Cluster.
"It will support research into improving yields, more in greenhouse gas emissions, increasing carbon sequestration, improving soil and water quality, and creating new uses for canola. And it brings together industry and scientists to deliver research that meets the needs of the hard-working farmers and processors."

Protein Industries Canada has released a new report highlighting the need for an increased focus on domestic processing.
CEO Bill Greuel says " The Road to $25 Billion" is an updated economic plan for Canada’s ingredient manufacturing, food processing, and bio-products sector.
Grain movement has been steady
CPKC reporting that grain movement has been running fairly smooth as they move grain to port.
CPKC's assistant vice president of marketing and sales for bulk is Elizabeth Hucker:
"Things are moving very well from a Canadian grain perspective both in the western provinces as well through to eastern Canada and the United States. In week 14 of the grain shipping year, CPKC moved over 600,000 metric tons of grain and grain products to those destination markets. Actually our second largest Week of the 2023-2024 grain crop year."
USask holds Fall Convocation
The University of Saskatchewan held its Fall Convocation this week.
This year, 934 students received their degrees, certificates, and diplomas during the USask Fall Convocation.
The College of Agriculture and Bioresources awarded 13 Certificates, 3 Undergrad diplomas, 4 Bachelor’s degrees, 2 Postgraduate diplomas, 28 Master’s degrees, and 10 PhDs.
Canadian Foodgrains Bank once again recognized as a Top 10 Impact Charity in 2023
The Canadian Foodgrains Bank has been named one of the Top 10 Impact Charity by Charity Intelligence.
This marks the sixth year in a row that the Canadian Foodgrains Bank has been recognized in the Top 10.
The CFB is an organization that consists of 15 members made up of Christian agencies across the country.
Executive Director Andy Harrington says the Canadian Foodgrains Bank works together for a common goal to end hunger.
Senator David Wells says "the fix is in" on Bill C-234
"The fix is in" That's how Senator David Wells described the actions in the Senate yesterday calling it "a shameful day for our Chamber".
During the third reading of Bill C-234, the final stage before the bill moves to Royal Assent, debate on the Bill was abruptly adjourned.
Ontario Senator Lucie Moncion tabled an amendment similar to an earlier amendment that was voted down by the Senate.
After that came a call to close the debate.
Manitoba Senator Don Plett called a point of order saying the move was " very rare and very unfair ".
Business Risk Management Programs expected to pay out nearly $2 Billion to Saskatchewan producers
Agriculture Minister David Marit announced today that based on their estimates the Federal Provincial suite of Business Risk Management Programs is forecasted to pay out nearly $2 billion in support this year.
Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation administers the programming for the Province.
SCIC President and CEO Jeff Morrow says the largest driver of that $2 billion is in the crop insurance program.
He says they're forecasting up to $1.85 billion will be paid out through the Crop Insurance program.
Public gives feedback on FCL's Integrated Agriculture Complex
Federated Co-operatives Limited held an open house this week to get the public's feedback on their Integrated Agriculture Complex at Regina.
Patrick Bergermann, FCL's associate vice president of the energy roadmap says they had over 150 people come out to learn more about the two projects involved.
