‘I am hopeful,’ Saskatchewan premier says about Chinese trade

Mobile mammography service to visit Grimshaw, Peace River

Primary Care Alberta’s Screen Test program will be in Grimshaw and Peace River next month to provide screening mammograms to eligible individuals aged 45 to 74.

A mobile mammography trailer will be at the following locations:

  • Grimshaw: Grimshaw Berwyn Community Health Complex (5621 Wilcox Road) Aug. 21-23

  • Peace River: Peace River Community Health Centre (10101 68 Street) Aug. 25-27

Investigation into Grande Prairie RCMP shooting continues

On July 19, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate a fatal shooting by a Grande Prairie RCMP officers that happened earlier that day.

On July 18 at 10:36 p.m., a community peace officer in a marked vehicle had his emergency equipment activated while attempting to pull over an unrelated vehicle. The officer observed another vehicle being driven erratically, speeding away and running a red light. The officer broadcast this information on the radio channel shared with Grande Prairie RCMP.

Sections of Range Road 63 scheduled for temporary closure during construction

Please be advised that Range Road 63 will be closed from Highway 43 to Township Road 724 beginning on Monday, July 28, 2025 due to construction.

The closure will be in place from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28 to 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29.

During the full closures, access will be granted to residents and business employees located along the affected route. The route will be closed to all other traffic.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area when travelling.

Hope Grande Prairie initiative launches August 14

A major new initiative is launching in Grande Prairie this August with the goal of improving how the community responds to domestic abuse, gender-based violence, and other urgent challenges facing local families.

Hope Grande Prairie, led by Odyssey House, is a collective impact initiative that brings together nearly 50 local organizations to work as one—sharing information, coordinating support, and building stronger wraparound services for those in crisis.

Sentencing for Freedom Convoy leaders Lich, Barber scheduled for Oct. 7

Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, two leaders of the Freedom Convoy protest, are scheduled to be sentenced for mischief on Oct. 7 in an Ottawa courtroom.

In addition to lengthy prison sentences, the Crown wants to seize Barber's truck, which was used in the protest.

A forfeiture hearing on that matter is scheduled for Sept. 12.

Ontario Court Justice Heather Perkins-McVey said Thursday she wants to rule on the mischief sentence and truck forfeiture at the same time so that she does not deliver "piecemeal" decisions.
