TRADE: Warriors acquire pick from Prince Albert for Fortin
The Moose Jaw Warriors have made a trade with Prince Albert, sending 18-year-old goalie Dimitri Fortin to the Raiders in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2028 WHL Prospects Draft.
“We’d like to thank Dimitri for his contributions to the organization over the past two seasons, including during last season’s championship run,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said.
Fortin was originally selected by the Warriors in the tenth round of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
Kovacevic’s hat trick pushes Warriors past Broncos on Tuesday
Rilen Kovacevic remained red hot for the Moose Jaw Warriors as he picked up his first WHL hat trick in a 7-4 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday night.
“Obviously the dynamic of the team has changed a little bit here and as things keep getting moved around, more guys need to step up and I’m trying my best,” Kovacevic said after the game.
The 20-year-old forward now has nine goals in his last six games after picking up the trio in Tuesday’s win.
The Warriors also improved to 2-1-1-1 over their last five games with the win.
Warriors sign Arizona State University commit Casey Brown
The Moose Jaw Warriors are excited to announce that the organization has signed 18-year-old forward Casey Brown to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
“We are excited to add Casey Brown to our organization,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said.
Brown joins the Warriors after starting the season with the Penticton Vees in the BCHL.
The five-foot-11 forward from Regina, SK is committed to Arizona State University in the NCAA.
PREVIEW: Warriors set for another showdown with Broncos
For the third time in the last two weeks, the Moose Jaw Warriors will go toe-to-toe with the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday night at the Hangar.
The Warriors lost in overtime and a shootout to the Broncos during a mid-week home-and-home earlier this month.
“First and foremost, it’s always going to be about the compete,” Warriors head coach Mark O’Leary said going into another match-up against the rival Broncos.
Warriors battle back, but fall to Americans on Saturday
There were ups and downs, but the Moose Jaw Warriors’ resilient effort fell just short against the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night.
Despite falling down 6-2 early in the third, the Warriors battled back to make it a one-goal game before eventually falling 7-5 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
“We gave ourselves a chance in the third and we can definitely build off that period going into the next game,” Warriors captain Brayden Yager said.
The loss snapped a three-game point streak for the Warriors.
PREVIEW: Warriors host Americans for Hall of Fame game Saturday
The Moose Jaw Warriors will be looking to build off their most complete performance of the season as they get set to host one of the top teams in the U.S. Division.
The Warriors welcome in the Tri-City Americans to the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Saturday night for the organization’s annual Hall of Fame game.
“We’re going to need everybody,” Warriors head coach Mark O’Leary said. “It’s no different than what we did against Saskatoon, that was one of the more impressive things, and the more exciting things, as a coach when everybody’s involved.”
Unger, Warriors shutout Blades on Thursday night
The Moose Jaw Warriors put together one of their most complete efforts of the season to knock off the Eastern Conference’s top team.
Jackson Unger made 32 saves for the Warriors as they shutout the Saskatoon Blades, 4-0, on Thursday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
“Obviously Saskatoon is playing good hockey this year, but I like the fact that we took it to them right off the bat,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said. “We were getting pucks in behind them, we were on the forecheck and I thought a lot of guys probably had their best game in a Warrior uniform.”
Warriors square off with Blades tonight
For the first time since Game 6 of last year’s Eastern Conference Championship, the Moose Jaw Warriors and Saskatoon Blades will lock horns at the Hangar in downtown Moose Jaw on Thursday night.
The Warriors are expecting a stiff test when they square off with their East Division rivals.
“We’ve just got to play to our structure, play to our game and if everyone’s on board, we’ll be successful,” Warriors defenceman Connor Schmidt said.
Warriors drop another tight game to Broncos on Wednesday
Swift Current, SK – For the second straight night, the Moose Jaw Warriors and Swift Current Broncos went into extra time and Swift Current came out with two points.
The Warriors scored twice in the third to force overtime against the Broncos, but Luke Mistelbacher scored in the extra frame to beat Moose Jaw 5-4 on Wednesday night at the InnovationPlex.
“Those are two games where we probably deserved a bit of a better fate,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.
Warriors fall in shootout to Broncos on Tuesday
Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors came up just short in a back-and-forth battle against the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday night, dropping a 4-3 shootout game at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
The Warriors and Broncos have needed extra time in both meetings so far this season.
“We were sharp, we were moving pucks quick… we hung around and I thought we did lots of good things tonight,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said after the loss.
