Warriors fall to Blades in shutout on Saturday
Saskatoon, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors’ offence couldn’t crack the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night, as they were shutout 2-0 at SaskTel Centre.
“It was definitely a game that we could have won, we were in it right until the end,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said. “It’s disappointing because it felt like a very winnable game.”
Warriors goalie Jackson Unger turned away 30 of 31 shots in the loss, while Evan Gardner stopped all 20 shots that Moose Jaw threw on the Saskatoon net.

Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors are heading back out on the road on Saturday night.
The Warriors will travel to SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon to battle the Blades for the first time since Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Championship.
Moose Jaw won that game to finish off an epic series win that saw six of seven games decided in overtime. The Warriors would go on to capture their first Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions.
Banini backstops Warriors to win over Silvertips on Friday
Moose Jaw, Sask. – Josh Banini had the crowd at the Hangar chanting his name by the end of his first Western Hockey League start.
The 18-year-old goaltender made 48 saves to backstop the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 4-2 win over the Everett Silvertips on Friday night.
“I heard all of that, so it was pretty cool,” Banini said on the crowd getting behind him. “I remember last year, they did the same thing, so it’s nice to know that I’m a little bit of a fan favourite here already.”
‘I had hopes’: Degenstein breaks through for first WHL goal
Moose Jaw, Sask. – Noah Degenstein got a large monkey off his back over the weekend.
The Moose Jaw Warriors’ sophomore forward scored his first Western Hockey League goal on Friday in Lethbridge and then followed it up with his second goal on Saturday in Medicine Hat.
“It felt amazing, it almost felt surreal, I couldn’t even believe it,” Degenstein said. “It was pretty nice seeing my teammates come congratulate me, so it was a sweet feeling I’ll never forget.”
Eight Warriors crack NHL opening night rosters
Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors will have eight alumni suiting it up for teams in the National Hockey League to start the season.
Two NHL teams will have multiple former Warriors on their opening night rosters with Tanner Jeannot and Joel Edmundson suiting up for the Los Angeles Kings and Noah Gregor and Travis Hamonic set to lineup for the Ottawa Senators.
Jeannot and Edmundson are both in their first seasons with the Kings.
Warriors double Tigers in Saturday night tilt
The Moose Jaw Warriors played a hard-fought road game to come away with a win in Medicine Hat.
The Warriors doubled up the Tigers, 6-3, to secure their first road win of the 2024-25 season on Saturday night at Co-op Place.
“We played hard, we knew that we had to, we knew what we were facing here tonight,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
Warriors open road trip with one-goal loss in Lethbridge
The Moose Jaw Warriors opened up their two-game weekend in Alberta for a narrow loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Brayden Yager scored twice, but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors dropped a 4-3 game to the Hurricanes on Friday night at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
“We had some good moments there, didn’t execute a whole lot throughout the game though and I think that ended up costing us,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.
PREVIEW | Warriors head to Alberta for two-game weekend
Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors are loading up the bus for their first Alberta road trip of the season this weekend.
The Warriors will hit the road to face the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday and then travel into Medicine Hat on Saturday.
“It will be good experience for the young guys, getting on the road for the first time, two big opponents, so it will be good,” Warriors forward Ethan Semeniuk said.
Yager named Warriors’ captain; Leadership group finalized
Moose Jaw, Sask. – Brayden Yager has been named the 36th captain in Moose Jaw Warriors’ history.
“It feels really good,” Yager said. “It’s definitely an honour, there’s a lot of guys in this room that could wear the C, but I’m excited.”
Yager takes the reigns from Denton Mateychuk, who served as the Warriors’ captain for the past two seasons before graduating to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
“I have some pretty big boots to fill and learned a lot from him,” Yager said.
Yager aiming to bring pro habits to Warriors this season
Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors received a big boost over the weekend when it was announced that star forward Brayden Yager had been reassigned by the Winnipeg Jets.
Yager arrived back in the Friendly City to start the week and hit the ice for the first time with his teammates on Tuesday.
Now that he’s back with the Warriors, Yager is looking to build off the habits he developed over the past month at the NHL level with the Winnipeg Jets.
