Lakovic ready for pressure-packed draft season ahead
Moose Jaw, Sask. – Lynden Lakovic’s stock is on the rise heading into the 2025 NHL Draft.
This week, the Moose Jaw Warriors forward was given an ‘A’ rating by NHL Central Scouting in their Preliminary Players to Watch list, and he was also named to Team CHL for the 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota next month.
Lakovic said the outside accolades hasn’t phased him as he looks to continue climbing up the draft rankings.
PREVIEW | Warriors open BC trip in Kelowna on Friday
Kelowna, B.C. – The Moose Jaw Warriors have loaded up the bus and hit the road for five games in 11 days through the BC Division, which will start on Friday night against the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place.
The Warriors have struggled heading into the road trip, going winless in their last five games, but forward Owen Berge said the team is focused on getting back on track during the trip.
Warriors fall to Tigers on Friday
Moose Jaw, Sask. – After battling to keep it close through 40 minutes, the Moose Jaw Warriors couldn’t hold off the Medicine Hat Tigers any longer in the third period on Friday night.
The Warriors dropped their third straight, falling 6-3 to the Tigers to kick-off the weekend at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
“We just looked slow, we looked slow in all areas of the ice and they’re the fastest team in the league and we just had a tough time keeping up,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
Military Appreciation Night jerseys up for auction Friday night
Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors are set to honour local military members on Friday night at Hangar with a special, limited-edition jersey being worn when they take on the Medicine Hat Tigers.
This year’s Military Appreciation jersey features the 1967 Royal Canadian Air Force Rondel as the crest on the front.
The 1967 RCAF Rondel was created in 1967 to celebrate the Canadian Centennial and during that year, the Golden Centennaires were formed.
Warriors fall to Blades in shutout on Saturday
Saskatoon, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors’ offence couldn’t crack the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night, as they were shutout 2-0 at SaskTel Centre.
“It was definitely a game that we could have won, we were in it right until the end,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said. “It’s disappointing because it felt like a very winnable game.”
Warriors goalie Jackson Unger turned away 30 of 31 shots in the loss, while Evan Gardner stopped all 20 shots that Moose Jaw threw on the Saskatoon net.
PREVIEW | Warriors head to Bridge City to battle Blades
Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors are heading back out on the road on Saturday night.
The Warriors will travel to SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon to battle the Blades for the first time since Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Championship.
Moose Jaw won that game to finish off an epic series win that saw six of seven games decided in overtime. The Warriors would go on to capture their first Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions.
Banini backstops Warriors to win over Silvertips on Friday
Moose Jaw, Sask. – Josh Banini had the crowd at the Hangar chanting his name by the end of his first Western Hockey League start.
The 18-year-old goaltender made 48 saves to backstop the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 4-2 win over the Everett Silvertips on Friday night.
“I heard all of that, so it was pretty cool,” Banini said on the crowd getting behind him. “I remember last year, they did the same thing, so it’s nice to know that I’m a little bit of a fan favourite here already.”
‘I had hopes’: Degenstein breaks through for first WHL goal
Moose Jaw, Sask. – Noah Degenstein got a large monkey off his back over the weekend.
The Moose Jaw Warriors’ sophomore forward scored his first Western Hockey League goal on Friday in Lethbridge and then followed it up with his second goal on Saturday in Medicine Hat.
“It felt amazing, it almost felt surreal, I couldn’t even believe it,” Degenstein said. “It was pretty nice seeing my teammates come congratulate me, so it was a sweet feeling I’ll never forget.”
Eight Warriors crack NHL opening night rosters
Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors will have eight alumni suiting it up for teams in the National Hockey League to start the season.
Two NHL teams will have multiple former Warriors on their opening night rosters with Tanner Jeannot and Joel Edmundson suiting up for the Los Angeles Kings and Noah Gregor and Travis Hamonic set to lineup for the Ottawa Senators.
Jeannot and Edmundson are both in their first seasons with the Kings.
Warriors double Tigers in Saturday night tilt
The Moose Jaw Warriors played a hard-fought road game to come away with a win in Medicine Hat.
The Warriors doubled up the Tigers, 6-3, to secure their first road win of the 2024-25 season on Saturday night at Co-op Place.
“We played hard, we knew that we had to, we knew what we were facing here tonight,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
