Warriors sweep weekend series with Broncos
Moose Jaw, SK — It wasn’t pretty at times, but the Moose Jaw Warriors fought their way to their fifth straight win on Saturday night.
Brayden Yager scored on the power play in the final minute of regulation to lift the Warriors to a 4-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos.
“Both games this weekend were fast paced, they played really hard and so did we, it was pretty physical, we did a pretty good job of pushing back and not letting our foot off the gas,” Yager said after the win.
Warriors win fourth straight, down Broncos in Swift Current
Swift Current, SK — Four straight goals in the third period helped the Moose Jaw Warriors strike first in their home-and-home series with the Swift Current Broncos.
The Warriors skated to a 5-3 win over the Broncos on Friday night at the InnovationPlex to open the weekend set between the two rivals.
“I’m super proud of everyone in the room, it was a character win and I like those kind of wins,” Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said after the game.
Warriors blow past Hurricanes with four-goal third period
The Moose Jaw Warriors’ offence took a bit to get going, but it turned on the jets in the third period.
The Warriors scored four times in the third on their way to a 6-3 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday night.
“The first period, we didn’t really start on time and we had a little chat in the room making sure that we were going to come out a lot harder, we knew we had more from this group in the second and third period, and we showed that,” Warriors forward Brayden Schuurman said.
Savoie named WHL Player of the Week
The Western Hockey League announced today that Matthew Savoie of the Moose Jaw Warriors has been named Tempo WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 14, 2024.
In his first WHL game since December 9, 2023, Savoie stunned in his Warriors debut with two goals and three assists in a 7-2 victory over the Vancouver Giants.
Savoie dazzles in debut, Warriors take down Giants
Moose Jaw, SK — Matthew Savoie came just as advertised in his first game with the Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Buffalo Sabres prospect had two goals and five points to help lead the Warriors to a 7-2 win over the Vancouver Giants on Saturday night during the team’s Conexus Warriors & Legends Hall of Fame game.
“It was a lot of excitement for me,” Savoie said of playing his first game for the Warriors. “The guys I was with in Sweden made it real easy to acclimate myself with this team.”
Brouwer, Engelland head into Warriors Hall of Fame
Moose Jaw, SK — Two players known for their hard-nosed play and dedication to the game were honoured on Friday night.
Troy Brouwer and Deryk Engelland were inducted into the Conexus Warriors and Legends Hall of Fame, joining a long list of Warriors’ legends on the wall at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
“I had no idea that it was going to be this big and amazing and to be one of the players selected for it, it’s an honour,” Brouwer said.
Warriors cruise past Royals in shutout victory
From the drop of the puck to the final whistle, the Moose Jaw Warriors didn’t let up against the Victoria Royals on Wednesday night.
Moose Jaw skated to a 5-0 win over Victoria at the Moose Jaw Events Centre in the first game after the WHL Trade Deadline.
“It was a pretty complete game by us, we liked a lot of the details that we had out there,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said. “We knew that Victoria was coming in on a late night, so we wanted to jump on them early, we were able to do that and just kept our foot on the gas.”
Warriors acquire goalie May from Tigers
Moose Jaw, SK — The Moose Jaw Warriors are excited to announce the acquisition of 2004-born goaltender Evan May from the Medicine Hat Tigers.
In the deal, the Warriors send a third round pick in the 2027 WHL Prospects Draft to Medicine Hat.
“Adding Evan May gives us more depth and experience down the stretch,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said.
Warriors fall to Broncos in wild Saturday game
Swift Current, SK — A massive comeback came up just short for the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night.
Down 6-1 early in the third, the Warriors scored five straight goals to tie the game at 6-6 before falling to the Swift Current Broncos, 7-6, at the InnovationPlex.
“We put the pressure on them, you could see that they were right on their heels, but the problem is you can’t do that for 20 minutes, it’s got to be a 60-minute effort,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for the Warriors.
Firkus powers Warriors past Raiders on Friday
Moose Jaw, SK — Jagger Firkus’ first game back in the Hangar since representing Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship was a doozy.
Firkus finished with a goal and four points to help propel the Warriors to a 6-4 win over the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night.
“It wasn’t the cleanest game by us, there was ups and downs throughout the whole game, but hockey is adversity and it’s good, it shows character that we stuck with it,” Firkus said after the win.
