Warriors acquire Savoie in blockbuster deal
Moose Jaw, SK — The Moose Jaw Warriors are excited to announce the acquisition of 2004-born forward Matthew Savoie in a blockbuster trade with the Wenatchee Wild.
In the trade, the Warriors will send seven picks in the WHL Prospects Draft, including first round selections in 2024 and 2027.
“It’s an exciting day for the organization and the City of Moose Jaw to bring a player of his caliber to come in and try to help us win a championship this year,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said.
Warriors battle to victory in Prince Albert
Prince Albert, SK — The Moose Jaw Warriors went to work for a hard fought road win in Prince Albert on Saturday night.
The Warriors scored two goals in the second period and skated to a 2-1 win over the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.
“It was a great road game for us, we did a pretty good job managing pucks and just trying to play a boring game, but capitalize on some of our chances and do a good job defensively and we did a pretty good job of that,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.
Firkus joining Canada at World Juniors
Jagger Firkus has been recalled by Hockey Canada and will join Team Canada’s 25-man roster at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden.
“It’s an exciting day for Jagger and the Warriors organization,” Moose Jaw Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said.
“We wish Jagger all the best of luck as he represents his country.”
Firkus joins Warriors captain Denton Mateychuk and forward Brayden Yager on Team Canada. This is now the first time in franchise history that three Warriors have represented Canada at the World Juniors.
Warriors score win over rival Pats on Friday night
Moose Jaw, SK — The Moose Jaw Warriors had the Hangar rocking on Friday night.
The Warriors opened the second half of the Western Hockey League’s regular season with a 5-2 win over the visiting Regina Pats at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
“I thought we came out, played real well, I thought we looked sharp and real crisp right off the bat,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
The win improved the Warriors’ record to 19-14-0-2 this season and keeps them in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Warriors earn hard fought win in Brandon Saturday
Brandon, MB — When Dakota MacIntosh scored the Moose Jaw Warriors’ first goal of the night, he lifted the monkey off his back.
Saturday night’s 4-3 win in Brandon lifted a massive monkey off the Warriors’ back heading into the Christmas break.
“He lifted the monkey off the back for the guys and it was great for him to get that started,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said. “For us to eke out a win like that is really nice, especially before the break.”
Warriors can’t extinguish Blazers on Friday night
Moose Jaw, SK — The Moose Jaw Warriors couldn’t get back into the win column at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
The Warriors dropped a 5-3 contest to the Kamloops Blazers in their final home game before the Christmas break on Friday night.
“Not to take anything away from Kamloops, but it’s a seven-win team and we need to have that game as simple as that,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
Warriors drop tight battle against Blades on Saturday
Moose Jaw, SK — For the second straight night, the Moose Jaw Warriors had a lead through two periods, but couldn’t finish the job.
The Warriors surrendered three goals in the third period and dropped a 4-3 game to the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
“We treated it like a playoff game, that’s for sure, but at the end of the day, you can win games in the third period and you can lose games and tonight, we lost a game in the third period,” Warriors forward Atley Calvert said after the game.
Warriors fall in shootout to Wheat Kings on Friday
Brandon, MB — Despite leading for much of the game, the Moose Jaw Warriors couldn’t finish the job in Brandon on Friday night.
The Warriors fell 5-4 to the Wheat Kings after a nine-round shootout.
“We had a two-goal lead in the third period and found a way to give two right back to them, so those situations, you’ve got to be able to lock it down and bring that thing home,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
Missed opportunities sink Warriors against Rebels Wednesday
Moose Jaw, SK — There were scoring chances abound for the Moose Jaw Warriors, but it wasn’t their night at the offensive end.
The Warriors dropped a 5-1 game to the Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
“We had enough good looks to win this game and it was a winnable game and we just weren’t able to get the job done,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.
Firkus, Mateychuk & Yager invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp
Jagger Firkus, Denton Mateychuk and Brayden Yager have received the call from Hockey Canada.
The trio of Moose Jaw Warriors were among the 30 players invited to attend Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, which will be hosted in Gothenburg, Sweden.
“This is a big moment for these three players, the Warriors’ organization and the City of Moose Jaw,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said.
