Prairie Cattle Marketing Update

The Prairie Cattle Marketing Report covers data from  Manitoba Agriculture, Saskatchewan's Ministry of Agriculture and CanFax with all prices reported in per hundred weights.

The last report out of Manitoba showed feeder steer prices ranged from an average of $459.70 for the 401 to 500-pound weights to $291.25 for the 901 + category

Feeder heifer prices ranged from an average of $398.80 for the 401 to 500 pounds to $252.50 for the 901 + category

Fertilizer update was a key focus during Cropportunities

With Spring seeding approaching farmers are finalizing their seeding plans and lining up crop inputs like fertilizer.

Matthew Krutzfeldt, the senior fertilizer merchant with Federated Co-op says buying fertilizer in the spring can prove costly because it's harder to bring product up through NOLA as it won't get here in time.

Human remains found in County of Grande Prairie

On March 14, 2024, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a report of found human remains on Range Road 55, south of Township Road 730, near the community of Clairmont. RCMP have identified the deceased as Echer Marcial (34), a male resident of Grande Prairie. RCMP Major Crimes Unit is now investigating and are considering the death suspicious.

An autopsy will be conducted on March 18, 2024, at Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.

City of Grande Prairie now under FIRE ADVISORY

The City of Grande Prairie has issued a FIRE ADVISORY effective immediately. The advisory is in place until further notice. A fire advisory is being issued due to current and forecasted dry and windy weather conditions.

Under this advisory:

• Current fire permits remain valid;

• New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis.

Prohibited:

• Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.

Allowed:

• Safe wood campfires *

• Backyard fire pits

Dawson Creek Mayor launches survey for Youth on what's important to them

Over the last year, Mayor Darcy Dober has been busy building up relationships hosting round tables with specific groups within the community. One of those round tables is a group of individuals and organizations that provide services to youth in Dawson Creek. The group meets every few months to discuss the needs of youth, upcoming events or services being offered to them, and more recently, some ideas for engaging youth in new ways.

Fire Advisory issued for the County of Grande Prairie

The County of Grande Prairie has issued a fire advisory for the entire County, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley. 

The advisory is in effect due to unseasonably dry winter weather conditions and aligns with the fire advisory issued by Alberta Wildfire for the Grande Prairie Forest Area. The County will not be issuing any new permits until conditions improve. 

While existing fire permits are still valid, any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.

Grammy-winning music DJ and producer Black Coffee is sharing his testimony of coming to Christ after a harrowing plane ride this year. 

From South Africa, Nkosinathi Maphumulo, AKA Black Coffee recently shared his testimony of becoming a Christian during an interview with Kaya FM. 

The DJ was on his way to Argentina when his airplane started jostling around and the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital. 

'Miracles happen': Sinbad makes first appearance since stroke, thanks fans for prayers

Sinbad is praising God for the support and prayers he has received while recovering from an ischemic stroke that happened four years ago. 

The comedian was rushed to hospital on October 25, 2020, after a blood clot travelled from his heart to his brain.  He underwent surgery immediately and, due to discoveries made along the way, was eventually put into an induced coma and placed on a ventilator. 

It was weeks before he opened his eyes and began speaking again, and it was a full year before he returned home.
