Residential snow clearing begins TODAY in Grande Prairie

A round of residential snow removal starts Thursday, February 29.

Residential snow clearing commences when declared by the City with consideration of snow accumulations and forecasted weather. Current snowfall has led to conditions where a round of residential snow clearing is warranted.

Two-week rotations of residential snow clearing occurs when declared and is completed by contracted snow removal crews from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In January of 2024 Archbishop Christoforus, a Greek Orthodox priest was the first to host a service, pray, and offer communion to fellow believers in the ancient city in 1,400 years. 

Former world junior hockey players charged with sexual assault choose jury trial

Five former members of Canada's world junior hockey team who are charged with sexual assault in a 2018 incident in London, Ont., have chosen to be tried by a jury.

Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote and Alex Formenton were charged with sexual assault last month. McLeod is also facing an additional charge of sexual assault for "being a party to the offence."

Full houses and overflowing spirit: Elevation Worship Tour officially sold out

One of the largest tours in Christian history has officially sold out. 

Grammy-Award winning Elevation Worship and Steven Furtick's Elevation Nights '24 tour kicked off last week. The eight-city arena tour has sold all its tickets and will average more than 11,500 concertgoers each night. 

“It’s not lost on us just how special it is to have an arena filled with people worshiping Jesus. It’s our prayer that what happens at Elevation Nights will have a ripple effect for years to come,” said Chris Brown. 

Grande Prairie RCMP found not responsible for death of man while in custody

ASIRT has cleared the Grande Prairie RCMP from responsibility in the death of man in custody back in 2021.

The investigation revealed the person died from an overdose and not lack of care while being detained. Guards checked on the man every 15 minutes until they found him unresponsive at 8:50am the next morning.

The initial arrest took place on February 7, 2021 when RCMP were called to the family home. He was taken into custody without incident after refusing to be transported to the hospital or an addiction centre.

Controlled burn in the County helps reduce wildfire risk

As part of the County’s ongoing work to lower the risk of wildfire, County crews will be conducting a 10-day controlled burn to dispose of wood debris in four areas along the fireguard, starting Wednesday, February 28.

Residents should refer to the map for the four pinned locations. Crews will be burning at the four sites for 24 hours per day, seven days per week for the 10-day burn permit. County crews will then re-evaluate the level of completion to determine whether weather conditions are suitable for any additional required burning.

Coldest Night of the Year Walk raises over $26,000 dollars

More than 100 people braved the cold on Saturday to participate in the Coldest Night of the Year walk in Muskoseepi Park.

Over 26,000 dollars was raised to go towards local charities helping people that are experiencing hunger and homelessness.

The fundraising initiative was put on by the Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Northwest.

$30,000 raised for mental health through February push up challenge

More than $30,000 dollars was raised for the Canadian Mental Health Northwest Grande Prairie during the push up challenge this month.

272 people accepted the challenge to complete 2000 pushups in 23 days.

Funds will go towards all the programs and supports that are offered through the CMHA Northwest.
