Manitoba feeder steer prices ranged from $469.19 per cwt for the 401 to 500 pound weights to $270.56 per cwt for the 901 + category

Feeder heifer prices ranged from $389.72 per cwt for the 401 to 500 pounds to $246.13 per cwt for the 901 + category

Saskatchewan steer prices ranged from $427.50 per cwt for the 500-600lb weight category down to $313.00 per cwt in the 800-900lb weight category. 

GP City Council presents $939,556 cheque to Sunrise House Youth Emergency Shelter

Grande Prairie City Council presented Sunrise House Youth Emergency Shelter with a cheque for $939,556.57 at yesterday's Council meeting.

Council is a strong supporter of Sunrise House and the vital supports they provide for youth in need.

"We look forward to the positive impact the new build will make in our community".

Sunrise House provides temporary emergency shelter to youth who have become or are at risk of becoming homeless.

Investing in a new Stollery Children’s Hospital

If passed, Budget 2024 will allocate $20 million over three years to advance plans for a stand-alone Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. 

With 236 beds, the Stollery Children’s Hospital is the second-largest children’s hospital in Canada and has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children’s hospital in Canada. As the province’s population continues to grow, it is crucial that children in Edmonton and northern Alberta have access to the specialized care they need.

Construction on this popular Banff roadway may impact your plans

One of the most popular roadways in Banff National Park is set to be under construction as early as April, which has prompted Parks Canada officials to warn summer visitors to plan ahead and prepare for delays. 

According to Parks Canada, Lake Louise Drive hosts about one million vehicles per year. The road connects the community of Lake Louise to upper Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, which are two of the most visited destinations in Banff National Park.

County of Grande Prairie snow removal continues tomorrow!

The County’s dedicated snow removal crews will continue clearing on Wednesday, February 28.  

Crews will move to Wedgewood, Taylor Estates, Maple Ridge and continue on in Hythe. Once those areas are complete, crews will move to Clairmont and La Glace neighbourhoods.  

When the digital “No Parking” signs at the entrance to these areas are visible, temporary parking restrictions are in place and street parking is not permitted between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  

B.C. minimum wage increases to $17.40 an hour on June 1

B.C.’s lowest-paid workers will get a pay raise when the general minimum wage increases from $16.75 to $17.40 per hour on June 1, 2024.

This represents a 3.9% increase, consistent with B.C.’s average rate of inflation in 2023.

The alternate minimum rates, for residential caretakers, live-in home-support workers and camp leaders, will receive the same 3.9% increase on June 1. On Dec. 31, 2024, the minimum piece rates for 15 hand-harvested crops will also increase by the same percentage.

Chickpea growers encouraged to participate in grower survey

Pulse Canada says Canadian pulses are some of the most sustainable crops in the world, and they're looking to back that up with even more data.

Chickpea growers are being asked to participate in a survey looking at the environmental impact of Canadian chickpea production.

Pulse Canada will use the survey results to create a 'Life Cycle Assessment for Canadian chickpeas'.

Ordinary Angels soars to 3rd place at box office, earning over $6.1 million opening weekend

It was a successful opening weekend for Ordinary Angels.

The faith-based film shot in Winnipeg, starring Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson, came in third place at the box office. It also managed to bring in over $ 6.1 million.

The movie also scored well, with the audience scoring 82% on the Tomatometer and a 99% audience score.
